The Rebecca Minkoff tastemaker series honors cool moms. And Cool Mom Picks!

We love prolific designer and mom Rebecca Minkoff. Love! Liz is still coveting her black and white tote and Kristen continues to drool over her mint crossbody bag. So we are beyond honored (seriously) to find ourselves interviewed this week on her excellent, style-savvy blog. Click over to her TasteMaker Series and learn a little bit about our Mother’s Day plans, beauty essentials, must-have apps, and of course our favorite RM products on our Mother’s Day wishlists. Which is all of them, really. But we did manage to pare it down. And hey, if one of you gets that...

New kitchenware, definitely not for minimalists

I tend to gravitate towards white kitchenware and serving pieces, but once in a while you just need something with more impact to liven up all that neutral. The new kitchenware from Isak, a longtime favorite design company of ours (love Sandra Isakson’s kids counting poster!), delivers in spades with their trademark combo of color, whimsy, retro-styling, and just enough Scandinavian quirkiness to make guests excited to get a better look at just what’s hiding under the Gouda on the serving tray. I love all the designs, but the family breadboard and porcelain cups might be my favorite–I could...

Ippinka: the shopping site for the minimalist crowd

I know these days it feels like there’s a new shopping site born every minute. But there’s one I’ve just discovered that’s fast becoming an obsession for me, because the products are so sharp, stylish and imaginative. The site is Ippinka, and they sell only products that adhere to their four principles of good design: functional, well-made, minimalist, and environmentally- and socially conscious.  Love when someone else does all the research for me. Now one huge caveat (and pet peeve) is that you have to register to be able to see the products–though I think I got around that when...

How to decorate with washi tape, without the design degree

I’ve recently found myself in possession of some washi tape, thanks to a few leftover Martha Stewart craft supplies at our recent Sealed With Love Valentine’s party. Not being the crafty mama that a lot of you are (uh, decoupaging my Scotch tape dispenser is not quite high on my to-do list), I’m not exactly bursting with ideas for how to use them. And then I saw this. I love this simple, decorative way to put pretty tapes to non-permanent use: it’s as simple as creating some basic, angular little houses and taping them up over a child’s desk,...

Shopping Etsy with Jonathan Adler. Dream? Not exactly…

One of our great honors in the years of running Cool Mom Picks was the opportunity to appear on Etsy’s blog, curating some of our favorite handmade Mother’s Day Gifts. So I always love peeking in to see what other designers, bloggers, and tastemakers like themselves. And how fun to see a few fun picks from none other than Jonathan Adler this week–plus one heck of a giveaway from Etsy. Check out the Jonathan Adler curation on Etsy this week and find just a few picks like these that I’m loving, all with his trademark combo of whimsy, color...

Add some sparkle to your holiday wish list with custom earrings

Dear Santa, I have been a very good girl, working thoughtfully through my shopping for this holiday season. However, I could use a little more motivation. I think these sparkly earrings might do the trick, if you happen to be passing through town early. On second thought: Never mind, Santa. I know you’re busy. I’ll just scoop them up myself. Yes, I’m thinking these spunky “posh” earrings from Sonyarenee are the perfect pick-me-up for any holiday outfit. Whether you’re hitting the mall or headed out to party, these might be your new go-to bling. The cool part is you can customize the design to...

Web Coolness: Kung Fu toddler, NYC Marathon aid, and lying about lice

Here are some of our favorite links from around the web this week. We hope you like them too. Our hearts were warmed to see the photos of New York City Marathoners going to help the people of Staten Island after Hurricane Sandy. And this story of their day is incredibly touching. One of CMP’s favorite kindie voices (and overall great guy) Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could will donate a portion of sales at this Sunday’s concert and fundraiser in Tribeca to the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. What a lovely post about a child whose love of running keeps her...

Virtuoso! Handmade handbag masterpieces

It’s no secret that I have a handbag obsession. That’s pretty clear the second you walk into my closet.  But these handcrafted beauties I found on Etsy are on a whole other level. And if you think this violin bag is amazing, just wait until you see the other ones. Each amazing krukrustudio bag is designed by two Russian artisans and created completely by hand out of wool felt. And, wow, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen anything like them.  While they certainly look like works of art, these beautiful felt handbags are all completely functional. Talk about a...
