Since birth announcements no longer really need to “announce” anything — Facebook seems to be taking care of that these days, right? — we love when we find something really fun and unique to commemorate your baby’s appearance into the world. Which is why we’re pretty sure that anyone who receives one of these custom birth announcements from artist Todd Borka, will be absolutely thrilled. You might recognize his work from the custom portrait pendants that were a favorite of ours this past holiday. And now he’s putting those great illustration skills to work in a whole new way. Send him a simple, uncluttered digital photo of your baby, along with...Read More

When I think of Father’s Day, two things immediately come to mind: ties and cards. Both of which can be awesome, and not trite–provided you know what to look for. Two years ago we discovered the gorgeous indie label ties from Pierrepont Hicks, which we loved so much, we included them in our 2010 Father’s Day Gift Guide. (Italian linen–hello!) So we’re thrilled to hear that they’ve partnered with our favorite mobile ecard purveyors at Red Stamp to create some really beautiful ecards based on their textile patterns, that you can customize and send right from their free app....Read More
Though I love the convenience of sending e-cards to those near and dear, there is still something special about getting an honest-to-goodness “real” card in the mailbox, especially on holidays like Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, I’m never, ever going to be that person who remembers to get to the card store on time, so I sheepishly type a meaningful happy whatever into my Facebook browser and hope that counts. For those of you like me, who want the convenience of an ecard with the specialness of a paper card, I think you’ll totally dig this new e-card site from the...Read More
This post is sponsored by Yahoo! Mail, which is encouraging families to stay in touch via email – which we think is pretty cool. I do my best to pop a handwritten note to friends and family, especially on their birthdays or when they’re kind enough to send a gift for my kids, but I’ll be honest, since adding my fourth child, it’s become much more challenging. Let’s just say it can be hard to even get my bills in the mail, let alone a note. (Shhhh, please don’t tell Emily Post. Or my mother.) Since discovering the joy...Read More
During these days of expensive childcare and daytime exhaustion, I’d imagine that for many of us, a romantic Valentine’s Date means putting the kids to bed and praying they stay there while you sit down to a romantic dinner in the dining room. Fondue perhaps? I thought this Valentine’s Card from Cocodot was kind of a cool thing–send it to your love digitally or the ye olde fashioned snail mail way, and make a stay-at-home date for the 14th. Then put on something lacy under your clothes, grab some bubbly and you’re ready to go. Romance is still alive....Read More
This year, I planned on getting my holiday cards out with plenty of time and all of a sudden it’s Christmas week. Good thing there’s a service that lets me send out cards–really, professionally designed holiday cards–digitally. Not only is it a lot cheaper, but it’s also a lot faster and I don’t have to buy stamps. I don’t even want to walk past the post office during the holidays. And best yet, it supports some of the best charities out there. Cocodot designs some attractive digital cards to begin with, and to make the idea even sweeter, they’ve...Read More
Wishing you a very spooky (but safe) Halloween, mamas from Kristen, Liz, Christina, Delilah, Julie and the rest of the Cool Mom Picks team – may you survive the sugar crashes and score a solid week’s worth of Reese’s Pieces peanut butter cups. To see our Halloween greeting to you, click here. It’s worth it, pinky swear. If you want to make a JibJab card of your very own, head over to their site. It’s not too late to send some spooky wishes to your friends and family. Or just do what we do–use these hilarious video cards to...Read More
I’ve been thinking about having a small Halloween party for my three-year-old and her friends. Nothing elaborate. No baking required. And I’ll send out the invitations on-line because who has the time to dig up everyone’s actual address? Fortunately pingg, one of Cool Mom Pick’s favorite free on-line card store, has a new collection of Halloween invites and cards by actual artists, and they’re so cute, it’s scary. (Ha.) Browsing the selection of Halloween e-Cards and invites at pingg will definitely put you in the Halloween mood. I love the Dapper Skeleton design by Etsy artist Katie Crawford, and...Read More
I’m not exactly a procrastinator, I just tell myself I can always do something tomorrow. As in, I’ll go out and get that great Father’s Day card tomorrow. Guess what? Tomorrow is now, and the Father’s Day card rack at the local store looks like it was attacked by hungry wolves. But, no worries, because some of our favorite websites have got our backs covered, with great Father’s Day ecards that won’t look like we waited until “tomorrow” to get. -Christina Start his day off with a song, preferably one sung by someone who sounds better than I do before...Read More
As a military spouse with a husband who deployed to a combat zone last year, I’m also pleased to see the creative ways businesses are demonstrating support for our troops. And leave it to CMP fave pingg, a free online e-card service, to figure out a way to show thanks to our Armed Forces, but get the kids involved as well. [EDITED TO ADD: Pingg is now Celebrations.com] Teaming up with Operation Gratitude, an awesome charity that creates and sends over 100,000 care packages to deployed soldiers in combat, pingg is creating a very cool “Gratitude Collection” of cards that will...Read More
The thought of sending a note card via the internet would generally make my inner Emily Post faint, but after seeing the gorgeous new paperless thank you cards, from CMP fave Paperless Post, I think I can hear her applauding. Just as lovely as a real, life paper note or thank you card, the new beauties from Paperless Post are devoid of nothing but the actual paper. Well, and the gas used to power the planes, trains, and mail trucks. But who’s keeping track? However, what you do get is the thoughtfulness of a carefully chosen and pretty darn...Read More
Ecard sites are no longer what they used to be, even a few years ago. I can’t even imagine why anyone besides your grandma would still send those digital cards made of stock photography rosebuds and garish wedding type. Well now here’s another one to add to your bookmarks: ecard website to the stars, Cocodot. While the service isn’t free — a very basic annual membership starts at $29 — it’s definitely a savvy choice for those of you chronic entertainers, birthday-rememberers, and general well-wishers who want to make an excellent impression without the use of actual stamps. The...Read More
Imagine a land where the world’s hippest Indie designers line up at your door to throw sketches at you for… whatever. Your daughter’s birthday party, your best friend’s shower, your “I Finally Lost the Baby Weight” champagne brunch. Okay, now imagine you don’t have to stand there in your pajamas and awkwardly offer them coffee as you sort through the portfolios. You just browse a website. This land is called pingg. For those of you already familiar with the free e-cards of pingg, you might agree that it’s the super cool lovechild of Hallmark and Etsy– with a dash...Read More
I have to admit I’m a bit of an iPhone app addict, but even though the number of smart phone apps are growing into the hundreds of thousands I generally think that there are only a dozen or two that are worthwhile. The Dr. Seuss Camera–Grinch Edition iPhone app is totally one of those. Select a card and use your built in camera to add yourself, or loved one to the picture. It’s incredibly fun and easy. My son instantly became The Grinch and my husband the put-upon pup, Max. Then you can choose a funky “Seussian” border treatment...Read More
The only thing that could make Alpha Mom’s new free designer online invitations made exclusively for Pingg better is if they’d been available last month when I was planning my son’s birthday party. I can’t believe how perfect the whimsical, smiling pirates would have worked for his sweetly naive “friendly” pirate party and honestly, they’re far cuter and more attention grabbing than some of the more generic looking designs on other e-invitation sites. Even though the ship has sailed on his party, these happy creatures can also be found on three other e-invitations, including an adorable Halloween Party design...Read More
