Behold the cuteness of matching swim trunks for dad and son. At least when they’re as cute as these styles.

Finally, it’s pool and beach season! For the dad in your life, there’s something very smart about getting something sentimental (if even a homemade card) then also considering a Father’s Day gift that will be put to good use. So when we had an opportunity to partner with Tom & Teddy, makers of stylish, popular, UV protection swim trunks for boys and men that are designed to last, we were so happy. They’re known for being extremely well made, wildly comfy, with a cut that’s a little shorter and more fitted to make playing, sand-castle building, and of course swimming a lot easier. Let’s just...

Wonderful custom artwork for babies, kids, and kids at heart.

I still think that a great piece of personalized art can be one of the best baby shower gifts, provided you know the parents’ taste. And uh, the kid’s name. Of course. But I think this new discovery should fit the bill for lots of families and lots of styles. The new Jr. Alexander collection from Alexander & Co adds even more fantastic vintage advertising inspired custom wall art for kids and it’s hard to pick a favorite. Artist Alexander Doll has created options that are lovely for babies and young kids, and some that are even cool for older kids — or hey, dads....

The custom action figures for the woman who already is a superhero.

Since we’re always saying that moms are superheroes, it makes perfect sense to actually turn her into one this Mother’s Day. That’s why we’re doing backflips, and possibly leaping tall buildings in a single bound, over a new company that creates affordable custom action figures, complete with a custom face on them. Whoa. Related: The coolest personalized Mother’s Day gifts After a successful Kickstarter campaign, You Kick Ass custom action figures (love the name) created by two ass-kicking entrepreneurial women, are ready for preorder. They’ve got both adult and kid figures, but if you’re shopping for mom, pick one of the four...

Glassful: The artisanal, indie version of a wine of the month club. About time!

Even though I love wine, I find the experience of selecting wine a little overwhelming. I never remember what I love most, can’t seem to buy the same bottle twice (unless, of course, it’s a wine I didn’t enjoy), and always feel like I’m relying on others to figure out what to buy. Glassful, a new monthly subscription box service (or call it a newfangled wine-of-the-month club) from the caring oenophiles at at Glassful HQ in New York City, is meant for people like me. They assess your taste in wine and delivers three bottles that have been curated just for you every month,...

Custom engraved cutting boards as special as what you use them for.

A while back, we found the loveliest custom ceramic plates fired with handwritten recipes from your family. It was such a cool keepsake gift for someone who values the idea of an heirloom family recipe, and the idea has always stayed with me. So when I saw a variation on the theme, in these cool custom engraved cutting boards laser-etched with your handwritten recipes, I really was drawn to them. Because it’s a scan, there’s so much you can do with it–work with a recipe card, something scribbled on an envelope, or a recipe that was typewritten on a funky old typewriter back in...

The Bear’s Song: A new bedtime book for kids that I don’t mind reading over and over.

I have a few non-negotiable criteria when I’m looking for a new bedtime book to read with my kids and The Bear’s Song by Benjamin Chaud exceeds my expectations on all counts. This book is my kids’ and my own current favorite bedtime story. The art is reminiscent of Richard Scarry’s busy world–only more artful than cartoony–making it fascinating for the kids. They quietly listen as I read because they’re so mesmerized by the images. Plus, the book isn’t too wordy which means it’s absolutely re-readable; one of my essential requirements.  Plus the plot is adventuresome, and our favorite part is to try...

Recycled book journals are utterly cool, even if they’re older than Grandpa

I love when vintage books are given new life, and I found that very thing in these gorgeous handmade recycled book journals from Renovated Books on Etsy. They’re made by carefully pulling apart old and rare books and recombining them with 70 pages of fresh, smooth paper to create an utterly unique journal with a mysterious past. Each book is beautifully hand-bound with Irish linen thread to lay flat, and 28 pages of the original book are thoughtfully placed throughout like mile markers. The spine even becomes a bookmark. Isn’t that clever? I love the dashing, Clark Gable look of the more manly volumes for...
