7 cool playroom ideas for kids that let you reclaim your living room

I’ve definitely been looking for cool playroom ideas lately for my own son. Because between the art supplies in the kitchen, the Play-Doh in the dining room, and the pretend workbench and kitchen in the basement, my preschooler is quickly laying claim to our entire new house. I know you can’t really contain a kid to just one room, but I feel like what he really needs is a dedicated playroom or playspace where most of his toys can live, because, let’s be honest, I want my living room back. And my dining room table. And my kitchen floor. To get the design...

Meet your new house guests: Martha Stewart, Jon Waters, and Iris Apfel.

What’s making me happy right now? Totally randomly, I’d say really good tart lemonade, extra daylight while we still have it, an available outdoor table at my favorite local Italian place, the 80’s station on Sirius/XM, the latest episode of SPAWNED, and now, The Legendary Tastemakers series of plush pillows from designer Brian Nesse. You have to check out these adorable, and pretty accurate depictions of some of your favorite pop culture icons, from Minnesota’s Loch Ness MPLS on Etsy. There’s definitely the perfect one for anyone ultra cool on any gift list you may have right now: Jon Waters for a film buff. Jackie O, Iris Apfel, Karl Lagerfeld or...

Why you’ll eat up Gobble’s adorable cardboard furniture for kids

I have long loved finding unique, eco-friendly, and easy-to-assemble cardboard furniture and toys for kids. But while most of the cardboard items I’ve found to date are unfinished, I’m so intrigued by a new company on Kickstarter that marries adorable kid-friendly design with cardboard to create room-ready pieces. Related: Cardboard food truck playhouses for kids that aren’t the same old cottages and castles. Gobble by Form Maker is a brand-new line of cardboard chairs and room organizers from Australia that you can quickly assemble to add a whole lot of personality to your child’s bedroom or playroom. For those planning some hipster 19th century throwback industrial chic decor touches for the kid’s room

Sometimes we just see one cool little bit of kid’s room or nursery decor that’s so clever, we can’t help but share. In this case, it’s the hand-crocheted vintage lightbulbs by Australia’s La Dee Dah Kids. I’m partial to the yellow one myself, which adds that kind of Williamsburg hipster, Edison lightbulb-peppered industrial design style to a child’s room. And you know, that’s a style you might not have considered when you were first picking out cribs.   Just choose from white or the yellow I really love, tether it to a hook from the wall you’re good to go. It’s even washable, should there be...

Reusable personalized birthday banners that you’ll want to look at more than once a year.

As much as I love party decorations, I hate throwing them out at the end of the day. I don’t even like throwing out paper tablecloths, after they’re torn, which, I know. My own issue. So I always love finding party decor that can be reused. I think the reusable personalized birthday banners from our friends at Blue Without You Kids are just adorable. The Etsy shop is known for their handmade soft mobiles and gorgeous but affordable embroidery hoop art, so banners seem to be a perfect addition to the line. While there are some cool handmade pennant buntings and a really...

Move over cutesie nursery art, plush taxidermy is taking over.

When papier-mâché animal heads began popping up on blogs a few years ago, I wasn’t completely sold on the trend of faux taxidermy as children’s decor. Sure, they were a million times less creepy than the real deal, but they didn’t seem playful enough for a kid’s bedroom. On the other hand, the plush taxidermy from Kelsey Davis Design are the perfect mix of wit and whimsy. If had a nursery to decorate, I’d place my order today.  All of the creatures she makes would be adorable over a crib or a dresser, but the crown-wearing lion and vintage-patterned pig are my two favorites.
