Tiny personalized nameplate rings from Julian & Co: proving good things really do come in small packages

For all the complaining I may do about tough days with my kids –the temper tantrums, the homework, the incessant snack preparation, and on and on– there’s not a gift that makes me smile bigger than anything personalized with their lovely names. Especially jewelry. Being able to keep my littles close to me and think of them when they aren’t around makes me blissfully forgetful of the last angry thing they shouted at me as we got ready for school in the morning. That’s why the new Tiny Nameplate Rings from mom-run CMP favorite company Julian & Co. would...

Loving you since MMIX: Cool custom mom jewelry

We’re always looking for mom jewelry that doesn’t quite feel so mom-like, and this sweet little  necklace fits the bill nicely. If you want to commemorate a special date, from a wedding anniversary to the birth of your first child, the custom Roman numeral necklace from Make Pie Not War (ha) may be just what you’re looking for. Because it’s customized, it’s got a vaguely rough-hewn look I really like, plus artist Alana Little can make the bar longer, should you be commemorating a birth in ‘VIII instead of in ‘I. There are other options too, including standard lettering, Braille, and even...

Handmade bangles to adorn those beautiful wrists of yours.

I’ve never been a delicate little tennis bracelet kind of a gal; give me a fat, chunky, look-at-me bracelet any day. And right now, I have an eye on this awesome Etsy artist who’s making some very cool, affordable bangles. The collection of handmade wooden bracelets from Lynn Lunger of UnaOdd are pretty wonderful. Each one is faceted like a precious stone, then painted in a modern rustic style that would look great with a cocktail dress or a prairie skirt. (Do people still wear prairie skirts? Am I just having early 80’s flashbacks?)   The artist calls herself a nature...

I’d never considered buying a wooden watch before, and now I can’t get these off my mind. Made from sandalwood, maple, and bamboo in beautiful natural colors, these analog and digital watches for both men and women are gorgeous accessories...

How to wear the Pantone colors of the season: Mykonos Blue and Turbulence Grey

I always get a little fashion geeky about Pantone’s colors of the year, and I’m so glad to see that the Pantone colors of Fall 2013 are eminently wearable. Or, most of them are. Two of my favorites, which also go great together, are the soothing Mykonos Blue, and Turbulence Grey, which is described as a dark, mercurial grey, and a really nice neutral alternative to black. Designer Kelly Wearstler‘s concept drawing here is a gorgeous example of them together, and here I’ve rounded up some other favorite pieces to help you put them to work. –Liz   1....
