11 of the coolest 2015 calendars you won’t mind looking at for a year

Is it overkill to hang a different calendar in every room of your house? Because there are so many gorgeous 2015 calendars that I’m struggling to choose just one. Here are 11 of the coolest calendars for next year, ranging from wall calendars to desk calendars to calendars you can use as gift wrap. I say let’s just give ourselves permission to buy as many as we’d like and simply call them pieces of art. They’re all so pretty! Above is Kristina Krogh Studio’s 2015 wall calendar, which combines two of my favorite design elements: black typography and gold foil. Simple yet stunning, it would look...

Honoring Black History Month with inspiring quotes from Maya Angelou

The history of Black Americans is filled with stories of inspiration and strength, so in honor of Black History Month, I was so happy to find artwork inspired by one of my favorite poets, Maya Angelou. Each piece features quotes that have been turned into artwork and speak of that resilience, hope, and courage. I also love how universal they are in their messaging, and how her beautiful words speak to all kinds of people. Wise words for us all. Etsy’s Finding Sunshine Rae creates typographical prints on photo paper (at top) which feature a mix of lettering and colors to spell out...

I have been in love with the indie artist-designed Tattly tattoos since we first featured them two years ago. There’s hardly a Cool Mom Picks writer who isn’t. And while they add so many fun designs so frequently (there’s a unicorn now!) that this would become the Tattly blog if we covered every single one, now there is some cool new news worth shouting about.   The new Tattly greeting cards just launched yesterday and I am thrilled. Right in time for the holidays, there are five gorgeously letterpressed designs, each featuring a card-appropriate typographic tattoo design, like Today’s the Day, Awesome, or...

It’s a girl! Or a boy! Oh, just read the banner.

This week on Brika, I was so happy to discover the beautiful work of stationer Kristen Ley of Thimblepress. There’s so much to love in her shop, but what really caught my eye was this great DIY kit for your next baby shower.    The DIY It’s a girl banner is so much fun. You can color it in yourself or make it as a creative activity with the other guests at the shower.  There’s also one for baby boys, and a gender neutral “celebrate” banner that’s cute for any occasion, really.  Look around the collection of her work on Brika...

Gorgeous baby announcements that don’t require that gorgeous baby photo. Yet.

Egg Press has been a favorite stationery and card shop of ours for a while, and their new baby announcements just keep them on top of the list in our minds.  These scallop-edged baby announcements from Egg Press are just delicious. They’re stunningly designed and hand letterpressed, and that die-cut trim really helps them stand out from the pile of other announcements that may be amassing on mantles and refrigerator doors this time of year. (September is a busy time in the baby announcement biz!) They’re not super cheap at $17/6, but then again, they’re less expensive than custom-printed versions. And...

A little inspiration for your neck

I’m hardly an inspirational quote junkie, but every now and then I find something that catches my eye. This time, though, it wasn’t a poster, but rather something I can wear around my neck.   I’ve heard of (and adore) letterpress cards, but letterpress jewelry? Well, let’s just say I’m equally smitten. This line at Lulubug Jewelry, made from mostly reclaimed silver, is right up my alley, with all sorts of cool quotes, whether you’re looking for a gift for someone special, or need a little personal inspiration. I’m pretty sure no mom would be able to keep a...

A new baby card with seriously awesome sass

Sweet little bundle of joy? Yeah, right. Anyone who’s already a parent knows exactly what’s swaddled in that cozy blanket. I salute our pals at Hello Lucky for telling the truth about that adorable new baby with this stylish card: she’s a tiny little dictator, and you’ll serve her for the next eighteen years at least.  The gorgeous design is letterpress-printed on thick 100% recycled paper and is blank on the inside, which means you have plenty of space to write out your tips for surviving the first few weeks of the tiny dictator’s regime. This card would be...
