3 cool ways to display travel photos that inspire you to take another trip soon

My husband and I recently spent two life-changing weeks in Seoul, South Korea, which means I have a zillion gorgeous photographs to show off to family and friends. On that 16-hour flight home, I spent some time scanning Pinterest and geeked out over these cool, creative ways to display travel photos. I can’t wait to get started on these projects. Once the jet lag passes. The kids’ table will be the place to be this Thanksgiving with these 11 great ideas to make it more fun

We’ve come a long way since the “kids’ table” of my youth, when a rickety card table in the kitchen corner was where all of us little ones were banished for Thanksgiving dinner. Now, there are so many ways to make the Thanksgiving kids’ table fun and interesting, everyone is going to want to be sent to eat there. And even if you don’t formally set up a separate kids’ table, a lot of these ideas can be incorporated into your family’s table decor where the kids are seated. I’ve even found some great ideas that will give the kids something to keep them occupied...

10 scary Halloween decorations that you can DIY… if you dare

Now that my kids are a little older—and a little braver—we can finally bump up the fear factor when it comes to decorating our home for Halloween. That means that the smiling cartoon ghosts and friendly pumpkin faces are about to be replaced with decorations that are a bit scarier. However, I’m making sure that the decorations that we use aren’t too creepy since I still need my kids to go upstairs without a personal escort.  So, I’m aiming for DIY Halloween projects that we can work on together, which will hopefully make them a little less scary since they’ll have a hand in creating...

The best of the 2015 Martha Stewart American Made Finalists: An admittedly abbreviated list.

Once again, Martha Stewart has announced her American Made competition finalists and I always love supporting them. It’s such a great platform for smaller, indie makers to get more exposure, especially those producing wonderful products right here in the U.S. There are pages of 2015 finalists you guys!  If you need a little help knowing where to start, here just a few (very few) of the dozens and dozens finalists who stood out to me in the categories of crafts, design, food and style. I’m sure I missed plenty more that I adore. In fact, let me know in comments if you have a favorite...

Congrats to the Martha Stewart American Made winners. So much goodness!

From the woman who tells us everything that’s “a good thing,” there are now ten more good things for us all to discover via the Martha Stewart American Made 2014 winners. Here’s just a few we’re amazingly impressed with. Kalon Studios: Michaele Simmering and Johann Pauwen’s gorgeous modern furniture is all designed in LA and US-made. From a gorgeous handmade crib we recently featured in our black and white nursery roundup,  to a modern play tent and plenty of modern craft furniture for adults, we’re coveting all of it.   Heather Lins is a Madison mom making very cool DIY embroidery kits that make terrific gifts for...

Plant Stamps: Seeded stickers that do more than ruin your car windows (says this mom)

Stickers can be the bane of a parent’s existence, especially when they’re plastered to the car windows or gumming up the vacuum cleaner. Ask me how I know. But a mom-and-pop company from Massachusetts caught our attention among the Martha Stewart American Made finalists for turning boring old stickers into a craft project for kids, a nifty wedding gift, a way to make the world a prettier place, and a great business employing people with disabilities. Sweet… basil! Plant Stamps are made in the USA and come in a variety of styles to suit any occasion from a wedding to a baby...

Make your own family trivia game for Thanksgiving. Beats fighting about politics.

There’s something about Thanksgiving that brings out the sentimental side of our ordinarily feisty family. In part it’s the memory of family who’s no longer with us, in part it’s seeing the next generation start to fill their seats–if still with boosters in the chair. So I really am smitten with this printable Family Trivia Game DIY project at Martha Stewart that’s super easy to make and might be a fun way to keep the conversation rolling. You can let one family member create a master list of questions, and then everyone has to fill out their own answers in...

Halloween clip art and templates from Martha Stewart: Too early? Not for her.

I will admit that we have been completely holding back on posting Halloween decor and craft ideas just yet. Can’t we get through September yet? Well, we guess not. Because Martha Stewart’s Halloween Issue just hit the stands, and we’ve got some exclusive template and clip art to share. Just, you know, to bookmark for later.   Now admittedly a lot of the designs are very classic–nothing too cheeky or outrageous. However I happen to love these printable Halloween beverage labels which turn any beverage a little more scary. Maybe the cyanide soda label goes on some rice wine? (Sorry.) Halloween...

How do you store towels and sheets? Martha Stewart knows!

A couple of weeks ago, I moved from Atlanta to Philadelphia and discovered that my new lovely rental home did not have a linen closet. I was about to just stuff my family’s towels and sheets in my own closet when I had the opportunity to ask Martha Stewart (yes, her!) a question and voila, I knew exactly what I needed her help with. Take a peek at her smart suggestion, as well as what I came up with to help make her magic happen in my own home. –Kristen   Now, I love the idea of folding towels...

Mixing up colors with Martha Stewart mixing bowls

Last year, we got a set of Martha Stewart ice cream bowls that have become favorites with my kids, whether they’re holding ice cream, peanut butter for dipping carrot sticks, or maple syrup in the morning. So I’m excited to see now she’s added to the collection with a beautiful set of mixing bowls. The Martha Stewart mixing bowls are so gorgeous, aren’t they? They would get so much use at our place, from mixing up pancake batter to serving kettle corn on movie nights. I especially love that they’re light enough that kids can lift them themselves (not...

Homemade fudgesicle recipes: It’s that time!

We’ve officially hit that time of year that every day ice cream requests have replaced the every day hot chocolate requests. Since my kids have come home from school more than a few times with the telltale artificial blue-icee stains under their noses, I like the idea of making them something a little healthier (a little?) that will still satisfy the sweet tooth, like this homemade fudgesicle recipe at Martha Stewart. With just 15 minutes of prep and standard ingredients like unsweetened cocoa powder, heavy cream, and a good vanilla extract, in no time at all you’ll be pouring...
