Damn you, Facebook ads: We tried the FLEX disposable tampon alternative, and here’s how it worked for us. In full detail (sorry).

I’m coming up on my 25thish anniversary of my first visit from Aunt Flo. And over that those 2.5 decades, I’ve had the same exact routine every month: tampons and pads. I wasn’t necessarily looking to spice things up in that department, but when I saw the ads on Facebook for a free trial box of FLEX disposable tampon alternatives, I figured, why not give them a try? And then share every sordid detail with the entire Internet. So, here’s how my tampon-free week went, so you can see if making the switch is right for you. FLEX: What is it? (No, really.) Okay, so...

The best bug sprays for Zika virus protection and how to apply them safely. Because we’d like to panic as little as possible about our kids, thanks.

This year, the Zika virus is on my mind (and everyone else’s, I imagine) so I’ve been avidly researching the best bug sprays for Zika virus protection. It happens that my daughter is extremely allergic to mosquito bites, so when she goes outside in the summertime, I make sure she’s covered head to toe in insect repellent — and for extra precaution, she wears one of those wristband mosquito repellents too. So you can see that this is an issue for me.   Do Non-Toxic Bug Sprays work against the Zika virus? Because she wears so much spray, I...

This week, a new study was published in the journal Cancer, indicating that married people have a “marked survival advantage” when it comes to cancer. And this here single mom sat up and took note. (If, admittedly, a little defensively at first.) As reported by HealthDayNews on the nih.gov site, researchers from the non-profit Cancer Prevention Institute of California looked at more than 800,000 adults in California diagnosed with invasive cancer over 10 years and the results indicated: -Married men had a 27% higher cancer survival rate than single men -Married women had a 19% higher cancer survival rate than single women. Wow. This also...

Yes,  I’m introducing you to natural feminine care products here, but hey, we’re all women (well, about 98% of us) and you can probably relate to my own minor recurring issue: During my last well visit, my nurse practitioner gently reminded me to ditch the gym clothes immediately after my workout and use feminine wipes if I wasn’t able to shower right away. And so, in an example of perfect timing, I got my hands on something called (wait for it…) Healthy Hoohoo wipes. I know. I know. Natural relief from things that make kids go OUCH

My kids entered a phase around 4 when bug bite creams and sting-stoppers terrified them. I’m sure it had a little something to do with the one we “promised them” wouldn’t hurt but turned out to be made with alcohol. (It wasn’t totally our fault; we were traveling abroad and couldn’t read the ingredients.) CMP favorite Mayron’s Goods has a terrific new product however, that takes all the hurt away. This time, Melanie Mayron (along with her adorable chemist dad) has taken a break from directing to put out OUCH Stuff, aptly named because it’s the stuff you put on those cuts...

Just call it “the same toothpaste Ariel uses”

Yes, friends, we live in a world where even toothpaste can start a debate between parents and children: What’s in it, what’s not in it, whose picture is on the tube, whether or not it burns like fire, mommy! (by which she means it’s mint.) But here’s a toothpaste just for kids that harnesses the power of coral–yes, coral–for maximum dental health. It’s called Coral Kids, and it uses EcoSafe ionic coral to protect from cavities, whiten teeth, and freshen breath, all without the use of fluoride or sodium lauryl sulfate. Never fear– it doesn’t harm our coral reefs;...
