Would you be mine? Could you be mine?

It’ll be a beautiful day in the neighborhood for someone who gets a set of these awesome Mister Rogers sticky notes I just found. Featuring the iconic images of Mister Rogers and his comfy cardigan, as well as Lady Elaine Fairchild, X the Owl, King Friday XIII, and Daniel Striped Tiger, you or your kids can tab pages in a book you are reading or leave little notes around the house. For best results, tab all the smartest pages with X the Owl and save Lady Elaine for anything that makes you feel kind of cranky. Daniel Striped Tiger would only go on my very...

Great savings on some of the coolest back-to-school shopping

When we were growing up, the best part about back-to-school season was always shopping for school supplies. But things have come a long way from the small thrill of finding a Trapper Keeper pattern that matched your personality. In fact, our friends at Minted are back as a sponsor (yay Minted!), and they’ve gotten into the back to school shopping game, too. You thought Minted was just stationery? Turns out they’ve now got personalized notebooks, name labels, cards and more, all to help your kids express themselves through a few special school supplies. Plus, we are so thrilled that Minted is offering 15% off all their kids’ essentials for back...

Some of our favorite camp stationery for kids: Here’s hoping they write to us.

When I was a kid at summer camp, mail time was always one of the best parts of my days. And I’d imagine now, a time when hardly any of us get actual personal snail mail at all, camp mail is an even more exciting ritual. So we’ve got some cool ideas to help arm your campers with some awesome camp stationery for kids, so they can write you about everything they’re enjoying — and everything they’re missing from home). Because the only thing better than letters from home while you’re at camp, are letters from camp when you’re the parent back home....

Passing notes, old school style

I’ve been known to blow it up with rapid-fire text messages, but I still adore handwritten letters sent by snail mail. I’m also a child of the 80’s who passed notes folded just like the ones pictured on these old school text note cards from laLa Grace on BRIKA. Kids, these are what text messages looked like in the olden days. Note proper spelling and apostrophe placement. Since they’re blank inside, I could use these notes for just about any reason, but I think it would be clever to write a note to my child’s teacher on one of these cards, since back in the day...

Go Minted! It’s your birthday! And a special discount to celebrate.

We’ve all been huge fans and supporters of Minted long before they were a Cool Mom Picks sponsor, so it seems hard to believe that they are turning seven! It’s no surprise their ever-growing collection of stationery, invitations, and gifts designed by indie artists around the world are so popular with parents, including us. They really are some of the most beautifully designed options that we see anywhere. So in honor of the big Minted birthday celebration (aw, seven is such a fun year), they’re offering a special store-wide discount on everything. We’ve gone through and picked some of our own personal favorites on...

10 cool custom photo gifts for the holidays

If your kids are like mine, it’s no small feat to actually get one fabulous, shareable photo of them. This year, I’m really digging the growing collection of excellent custom photo gifts from Minted. DIY with the Makr app: Getting crafty in an app-happy world

We love finding gorgeous designs from indie artists, but sometimes what you really need is a way to make your very own custom design–preferably without hiring an artist or earning a degree in graphic design. The new Makr app for iOS helps you do exactly that, and it’s fast, easy, and a lot of fun, even if you’re not artistically inclined. Interestingly, the same free Makr app is different whether you’re using iPad or iPhone, including how it looks and what you can do with it. I’ll cover both here, but keep that quirk in mind when you download it. (Because...

7 of our favorite Made in the USA gifts just in time for Labor Day

If you’ve read our site for any length of time, then you know that American-made products are our heart and soul; celebrating them (and the indie makers behind them) is actually one of the reasons we started Cool Mom Picks in the first place. It’s why we love having our own Cool Mom Picks indie shop at Great.ly, which allows us to support local, indie artisans in another way. So, in honor of Labor Day, we rounded up some of our favorite American-made goodies featured in our indie shop. Whether you’re looking for a special treat for yourself, someone close to you, or just want to get...

Cool wrapping paper as nice as the gift inside.

I get tired of the same old gift wrap I seem to see everywhere. I’m one of those people who would rather show up at a party with cool wrapping paper instead of a package that looks identical to everyone else’s. So when I discovered the original, very cool wrapping paper and cards from Lily & Val, I swooned. Featuring hand-lettered chalk art by Valerie McKeehan, it’s all super fun, isn’t it? The Flower and Vines wrapping paper (at top) comes in a pack of three sheets and is great to keep on hand for any gift at all that you...

C’mon get happy

I’m a bit of a journal and notepad hoarder, because as a writer, I believe you can never have too many, in too many places. Thank you, oh thank you

One of my resolutions this year: Get better at sending thank you notes. Have I broken that resolution already? No comment. But I’m here to tell you that it is not too late to send out thank you notes for your holiday gifts. I know how it gets as the weeks blow by and suddenly you’re like eh…I’ll thank her in person when I see her in a few weeks. However I can’t think of a nicer surprise at the end of a blustery, dark January than a handwritten note in my mailbox. I was browsing the selection of...

Children’s thank you notes with an extra personal touch

My children are fortunate to have extremely generous family members who love to spoil them with lots of Christmas gifts. And since my 6-year-old can now write well enough to ask them for specific presents, my feeling is she can do her own thank you notes this year too. I’ve tracked down two adorable card options for kids that are perfect for the job. The personalized kid silhouette stationery from Lotus and November are so unique, I really just love them. And they’re excellent not just for holiday thank yous, but for other occasions throughout the year. You just need to submit a...

I just wrote to say I love you

I don’t know about you, but I’m only a few months into school lunch-making and I’m running out with ideas to keep it interesting. Mostly for me. I try to create little surprises in my daughter’s lunchbox every day, from slicing her sandwich in different shapes, to tucking in a little sticky note with a silly drawing. A couple of companies are doing some cool stuff with lunchbox notes, for those mornings you (or really, I) just don’t the creativity in me. Or, you just want to do something a little more special on extra-special spelling test/school photo/soccer game...
