Backpacks and lunch boxes and monograms oh my.

So okay, we’ve been fawning over Dante Beatrix way too much lately. First it was their fabulous eco-backpacks made out of 100% recycled bottles which now come in little kid sizes. Then it was their adorable wheelie bags for kids. Next up it was their super cute BPA and PVC-free lunchboxes that we featured on our Back to School Shopping Guide. But wait – there’s more! Just in time for the school season to start, they’ve got two new items of note – first, their new robot backpacks and robot lunchboxes available exclusively at Giggle. They come in pink...

Tooth fairy pillows get a sweet update

Since turning five and seeing all her similarly aged friends losing teeth, my daughter has become obsessed with the tooth fairy. And while I love all the fantastic tooth fairy pillows we’ve found here at Cool Mom Picks, I don’t think I can bring myself to add another stuffed item to her already crowded bed. So that’s why I’m snatching up an adorable personalized tooth fairy dish from CMP fave The Brick Kiln. Just send them your daughter’s name, along with hair color and dress color choice, and this creative duo will fire up a dish just for your...

Personalized children’s books you could hang on the walls

I’m pretty sure there’s nothing most kids love more than seeing their name or likeness in anything, hence the slew of personalized books that cram my daughter’s bookshelves. Her most recent birthday gift was a personalized book found at MJM Books, a cool company founded by three brothers. (Matt, Jeff, and Mike – get it?)  What’s special about these custom books is that they incorporate real artwork by real artists – no clip art or photoshopping at all. The cute stories all made to order and printed on recycled paper, seamlessly infuse your kiddo’s name and likeness; all you...

One teeny reason to get excited for summer camp

Camp season is nearly upon us, at least for some lucky mamas. The first place we tend to think to see what’s new in the exciting world of labels is CMP reader fave Mabel’s Labels. Their newest offerings are the Teeny Tags, colorful mini 1.2″ ID tags personalized with up to 60 characters. You could do your kid’s name, phone number, address, or just initials and one of fifty cute icon – my daughter has a guitar on hers. (Had to nix the princess crown. I know, I’m a horrible mom.) These ID tags are really smart for labeling...

Keepsake jewelry in unexpected places

I’m a complete sucker for keepsake jewelry, but not enough to sacrifice my style. These days, there are plenty of keepsake necklace options, but not so many keepsake bracelets in a style that I would actually wear around my wrist. But when I found the “M” Memory Bangle at Lush Design Studio, I knew I had a winner. Handcrafted from sterling silver, each smooth, thin bangle features two personalized handstamped sections, each dainty and completely unassuming. Add your child’s name and birth date to the bracelet, or be creative and do something personal to you.  If you’ve got more...

You always burp the ones you love

You know how you have your everyday jeans and your “fancy” jeans? (Or is that just us suburban moms.) Well these personalized burp cloths from Blume are like those, perfect for when you want your baby to spit up on something a little more stylish. A set of three super soft and absorbent cotton cloths are embellished with an embroidered 50’s gas station inspired patch. The thing I love the most is that you can personalize the tags on the bibs, or any of the custom baby gifts on the site, up to ten characters. You could do three...

The key to an awesome Father’s Day

While every dad loves the homemade cards and pictures, we always adore services that help turn your child’s doodles into something even more special – maybe even something he can carry with him every day? Mia van Beek of Formia Design offers one-of-a-kind key ring fobs she creates from your child’s own drawing. I’m pretty sure any given dad or granddad would treasure one of these original creations, and prices are remarkably reasonable. A simple design in titanium is just $49, while more involved creations or sterling silver cost a bit more. However a father and child’s mutual delight...

Bright ideas for babies from Bright Shop

Considering the last craft I attempted ended squarely in the trash can, it’s pretty clear that you don’t need to be crafty to write for Cool Mom Picks. But, it just so happens that one of our esteemed writers has an eye for design that she translates into super cute baby and toddler t-shirts, and we’re more than happy to pimp her out. Thus is the case with our new contributor and Etsian, Carrie Damen, and her adorable custom alphabet tees. When she’s not chasing after her two kids and waxing poetic for us, Carrie and her friend Sara...

Cards from Paper Culture: Design totally within reach

The beautiful new collection of modern cards, announcements and invitations from Paper Culture have me as excited as any note cards we’ve seen in a while. And we see a whole lot of note cards so that’s saying something. The baby announcements are a welcome change from the same old derivative designs we see pretty much everywhere, combining your own photo with sweet contemporary illustrations in color combos right out of the latest Wallpaper* magazine. There are also some fantastic kids’ birthday invitations (love that pirate!) and a great selection of personalized baby shower invitations that while modern, are...

Your own personalized wine bottles – second only to your own personalized vineyard

It’s like we blinked and Mother’s Day is over, Father’s Day is around the corner, and as always, it’s darn near impossible shop for the dads in my life. Fortunately, I was just turned onto Etching Expressions, which makes custom wine bottles that I think would be awesome gifts for that proverbial Guy Who Has Everything. There’s a whole category of Father’s Day wine gifts but I think there are cooler designs if you poke around the site and use a little imagination. I love the funky retro-looking Love design and the Special Thank You bottle could be funny...

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s super [your kid’s name here]!

There are lots of cute birthday invites out there–heck, we feature tons of them right her–but we have not seen anything quite like the custom comic book invitations from Egba Originals. The company will create an entire comic book starring your child as the hero, and even incorporate the theme of your party into the storyline. How incredibly cool is that? They even come packaged in plastic sleeves, just like real collectible comics. As you’d imagine, this is not a service that comes either cheaply, or quickly. Figure somewhere between $15-$25 each (yes each) and about a month to...

Stick it; stick it good

Why give a goodie bag full of useless plastic toys that will break five minutes after you give them out, when for the same price you could give each party attendee three sheets of personalized stickers that go with your party’s theme? At least that’s how I see it. Frecklebox is now offering personalized stickers in a variety of designs; I’m a fan of the pirate stickers (shown here), but my daughter has already called dibs on “I Got the Blues,” and “Later, Skater” has been declared “way cool” by my son. And what kid doesn’t like stickers made...

Mother’s Day gifts for the mother of all mothers (or at least the mother of you)

Holy weepy grandmother – I just discovered the personalized plates from Aedriel Dixon’s etsy shop and if that’s not going to have Nana or Bubbie or Gamma flying through the Kleenex Designer Florals on Mother’s Day then I don’t know what will. These ceramic plates feature sweet little blue or black birds, and a coordinated painted rim. And because they’re all painted by hand, Aedriel can customize them with a nickname, the grandkids’ names, or a short message of love right in the center. The personalized plates take about two weeks to create and ship so best to order...

Bespoken? Word.

Every woman needs to one one perfect, crisp button-up shirt. And by perfect I mean it fits at the shoulders, the collar isn’t better suited to the Ringling Bros. wardrobe department, and your chest isn’t busting the buttons every time you inhale deeply. Rebecca & Drew has just introduced a very cool custom made shirt for women that may be the next best thing to heading to a tailor for measurements. You specify the fabric, your chest size and cup size (!!) and whether you prefer the classic oxford shirt (or custom shirtdress) longer in length. You can also...

You’re the onesie that I want

Since my sweet third child will most likely be relegated to a life of shared toys and hand-me-down clothes, it’s always nice when someone sends her a personalized gift that makes it 100% clear that it was meant for her and her alone. So if you’re looking for the perfect 2nd or 3rd baby gift, you’ll want to check out the hand embroidered onesie from Baby Gardner. The sweet vintage-inspired elephant design is personalized with your choice of name and is packed in a delightful coordinating personalized drawstring bag. It’s a keepsake that can at least make up a...

So that’s what all those blank walls in the nursery are for

If you’re a sleek-lines-and-minimal-fluff sort of a mom, you’ll want to check out Nashville artist Michalle Sessions’ gorgeously simplistic prints for your progeny’s room via her shop, LJ Ink.  From the red-sock-wearing giraffe and monkey in the “Sock It to Me” series to the stick girl and her mommy in matching striped tights in the “Love Me” series, I want it all. Enough so that the the little girl print is now gracing the wall in my daughter’s newly remodeled bathroom. Michalle can also do some really cool personalized pieces with an initial under a set of  old-school knicker...

Custom Christmas ornaments, delivered on doves’ wings

It’s not that I don’t go “awwww” just a little bit over the beautiful hand-cut  ceramic dove ornament with a customizable message from Paloma’s Nest–it’s that mentally I’m sometimes still about nine or ten and imagine all the hilarious words I could put in there. Of course it would be nice to personalize the ornaments with believe or adore or your kids’ own lovely names, but with up to twelve characters I am tempted to do familygate08 or hide me. In the end I’ll probably just get fly.  Darn sentimental side always triumphs over the internal 9-year-old....

The only thing cooler than giving kids books for Christmas – giving kids personalized books

As I read my own childhood picture books to my daughter, I also read the handwritten dedication penned on the first page of most of them. To Rita, on her third birthday, from Mommy and Daddy. To Rita, from Grandma and Grandpa. But of course that was long before computers. And Photoshop. Now dedications are taken to the next level with the The Kids Personalized Book Store. The first pages of dozens of books from The Pokey Pup to Little Women can be printed with your own dedication, and what’s really cool, a photo too. Kids will flip when...
