When you’ve got a baby who’s tummy-timing all over the house, it’s nice to have something for her floor exercises that goes beyond a slippity blanket or boring bath towel. We’ve BTDT and what we wanted for our little ones? Something cushioned, soft, portable, and — hey, why not? — lovely to look at too. And these designer Kip & Co. baby playmats fit the bill perfectly. Kip & Co. is a cool women-owned company based in Australia that specializes in these colorful, beautifully crafted playmats (as well as other linens for babies like sheets and swaddles). And lucky for us, they just recently launched their...Read More
I can still vividly remember the playdate I had for my toddler the same week we laid new carpet in our house. You know where this is going, right? Within minutes, the mom’s mega-venti-grande-whatever coffee was all over the place. And yes, the stain is still there. What would have saved me then — and the countless other times my kids or their friends have made a mess all over the floor — are these chic bonded leather playmats by Gathre. These simple, waterproof leather mats are so pretty…and so functional! They can be used for everything from a picnic blanket to a...Read More
What’s black and white and chic all over? Your baby’s future nursery, of course! If you’re looking for something other than the traditional blues, pinks and yellows, we’ve got you covered. I’m a huge fan of this gender-neutral nursery trend because it’s modern and sleek, but easily softened up with the comfy pillows, textured rugs, cozy blankets and other ideas we’ve rounded up for you. If you’re into not-too-cutesy gender-neutral nursery offerings, the new line from the British design duo at Olli + Lime has pretty much everything you might need for a very coordinated black and white nursery. From crib bedding to pillows, blankets...Read More
When we heard that one of our favorite design bloggers, Joy Cho, was launching the Oh Joy for Land of Nod baby collection, we seriously couldn’t wait to get a look at it. All of her design collaborations have been terrific and we figured this one would be both terrific–and affordable. And so it is. Well, not like thrift shop affordable, but definitely in the realm of baby gifts that people outside the 90210 can afford. Starting today, you’ll find cute, colorful, playful baby gifts with modern touches from artwork to bedding and decor. Even three fun patterns of an elephant...Read More
I’ve been itching to replace our dark, faux-Oriental rug in the family room for years. As much as I love shopping from the comfort of my home online, there are times when I could use the advice of a real, live sales associate to talk me through options, color choices, and patterns. You know, so I don’t end up with another dark, faux-Oriental rug. So I’m excited to discover what cool modular-floor carpet tiles company FLOR has just started doing to personalize the online shopping experience, and help insure that everyone loves their floor. Or FLOR. [Don’t miss a...Read More
With a house full of girls, you can bet that I’ve seen and owned my fair share of dollhouse toys, all of which have been some of my kids’ favorite gifts from us. Or uh, Santa Claus. But for as many version of the traditional dollhouse toy that I’ve seen, none can compete with this rug that I’m sure would get tons of playtime for many years. The Playhouse 3D carpets are the brainchild of a mom in Turkey who wanted to encourage outside-of-the-box creative play in her own kids, and wow, are these brilliant! Each completely handmade 3...Read More
Last week I got a sneak peek at a cool new collaboration between design gurus and parents (of seven!) Bob and Courtney Novogratz and CB2. When I did, all I could do is smile. The colorful wool Family Rug charmed me right off the bat; and I have to say, I’m not always open to peppering my home with “sayings” or words. But in this case, I think it would be so perfect in…well, a family room. But I could also see it in a playroom or a modern entrance way. Should yours be a little bigger than mine. It comes...Read More
If had to do one thing over with our nursery, it would be buying more items that look good after your kid hits two. As cute as those bunny rabbit rugs are under a crib–not so much with a kindergartener. I think the letterpress rug at CB2 is so cool for a kid’s room, especially if you’re not doing the pale pink/pale blue/gingham thing. Liora Manne’s letters are awesomely random, making it more fun than a regular old alphabet rug. And the muted colors could really anchor some pops of orange or yellow that you’re already using. Just don’t...Read More
We’re just a few days into summer vacation and it’s already mud season. Not the kind of mud that’s made by Mother Nature. This stuff is kid-made, by way of a wading pool, a trusty hose, and a patch of mud-ready dirt. It’s given me the perfect excuse to look for a great new rug for the entryway–you know, something eye-catching and color-poppy, but still sturdy enough to withstand wet kid feet. And I believe I’ve found it. I absolutely love the bold, colorful zig-zags and geometrics on these floor runners and rugs from Brita Sweden—so mod.But what’s super cool...Read More
