Start your day with coffee and a laugh. Thanks, Emily McDowell.

I’m pretty sure that artist Emily McDowell is inside my head, because every single thing she makes I find myself nodding and smiling, maybe laughing, and then laughing some more. And that’s the case with her newest crop of funny coffee mugs which makes the line even bigger. And funnier. You’ve probably seen Emily’s hilarious reusable grocery bags and book totes here on Cool Mom Picks, which have all been big huge hits with our readers, and now, it’s funny coffee mugs. Personally, I think laughing over coffee is a perfect way to start your morning — or if you’re me, mid-morning, lunch, and late afternoon. Okay, sometimes after dinner too, which as you...

The freedom clip for Keurig 2.0 gives you java freedom of choice. Power to the people!

Last summer, Keurig Green Mountain released the latest version of their K-Cup brewer, the Keurig 2.0, with a new feature that only allows brewing of authorized K-Cup pods. Convenience coffee drinkers across the nation were understandably up in arms, but they can rest now (or be more alert?) thanks to the Freedom Clip for Keurig 2.0 from Rogers Family Company. This small plastic device essentially overrides the lockout technology and allows the new Keurig machine owners to brew coffee of their choice from most non-approved K-Cup type pods. Oh yeah, and it’s free. How’s that for sticking it to a monopoly? Of course this isn’t all about benevolence;...

Healthy back to school snacks: 4 delicious food trends every parent should know about.

I’m a sucker for new food trends, but I usually wait to see what sticks–and what I really like, of course–before spreading the word. Let’s face it, not every new food product is worth reporting (looking at you, green ketchup). Sometimes, though, not-to-miss food trends emerge from the fray. I recently caught on to four that I think parents should know about, just in time for back to school snacks. Some of these brand new foods may be hard to find in your local supermarket, but everything listed here–with one exception that I just couldn’t resist–is available online and seriously worth your...

I pity the fool who doesn’t like this Mr. T teapot set

When you think tea, you think Mr. T, right? Smooth, powerful, totally in control of a rainy afternoon next to the sleeping cat, B.A. Baracus pities the fool who doesn’t enjoy a nice cuppa. This Mr. Tea Tea Set for One from Squackdoodle on Etsy is an upcycled teapot and tea cup printed with an image of Mr. T and, well, the words “Mr. Tea.” Just as straightforward and cool as Mr. T himself. Considering the three pretty colors, maybe B.A. should change his name from Bad Attitude to Blissful Afternoon.   After checking the feedback, it looks like the image...

We love fun, indulgent gifts from time to time, but sometimes a practical present can be a lifesaver. If you know a pregnant mom who’s experiencing morning sickness, here’s how to be her holiday angel. And don’t worry–you can still place it in an adorable mug and tie it with a big red bow. Keep It Down Tea by Anna Naturals is specially formulated to help ease nausea and morning sickness, thanks to ginger.
