2 fantastic tees we’d wear even if they didn’t support the ACLU. But they do.

Our friend Christine Koh, she of the wonderful gold personalized unicorn tee (featured as one of our favorite cool birthday gifts for tweens and tweens) is at it again. Her shop, which features beautifully designed advocacy tees each supporting an excellent cause, now has two new designs with 20% of the proceeds going to one of our favorite orgs, the ACLU Nationwide. Check out the shop for the fierce Rise Up tee and the gold stamped Equality tee, both of which I love so much…well, considering the cause, the designs themselves, and the opportunity to support an indie maker mom with my purchase,...

A patriotic T-shirt that reminds us of what makes America wonderful.

Though I’ve heard a lot of people joke that they’ll be shipping themselves over the Canadian border if this year’s presidential election doesn’t go the way they hope, I know that for the vast majority of us, there’s no place like home. Especially the home we’ve created for our kids; you know, the one that promotes the best qualities our country was built upon like freedom, acceptance, and diversity. So if you too want your kids and others to remember why we think America is already great, thankyouverymuch, here’s a wonderfully patriotic T-shirt from Seattle’s Free to be Kids. Their ethically...

Super rad Father’s Day T-shirts? Check.

Whether the special father in your life goes by Dad, Pop, or Daddy-O, you can celebrate the year he earned that title with one of Branded’s personalized cotton tees. We love this idea for the coolest Father’s Day T-shirts, which, by the way, we also included in our 2016 Baby Shower Gift Guide. They have just about every naming option I can think of for both dads and grandfathers or other important father figures in your life, or you can customize a shirt with the moniker that will fit him just right. I love the distressed vintage lettering that gives the shirt a well-worn look right...

Our favorite gifts inspired by our favorite Children’s Book Week posters

I hate to admit it, but every once in a while I find myself fussing at my kids, “Put that book down and come on!” But, I have to say, I truly love when they’re nose-deep in a book. And I’m on a lifetime quest to forever encourage my kids’ love of reading. So, in honor of Children’s Book Week this week, we think everyone should grab a copy of the 2016 Children’s Book Week poster created by illustrator Brian Won. It’s free, while supplies last, from Book Week Online. Whoo! Related: The ultimate list of the best kids’ books of 2015 And if you’re feeling a wee bit nostalgic for...

Maternity clothes you’ll want to wear even if you’re not pregnant.

Ever had that feeling of irritable jealousy when you caught your pregnant friend still rocking cute cotton dresses and jeans without expandable waists? Yep, me too. In a blink of an eye I was in clothes that made me look like I was due any moment. . . and let’s not even discuss how long I wore those saggy maternity clothes after my baby was born. I could have used some pieces from the new-to-the-US Mayarya: More than Maternity line, which has so many gorgeous outfits that are designed to work with a woman’s changing body, whether she’s expecting, nursing, or not expecting at all. Created by Japan’s Reika...

Book cover tees that promote smarts over sass

RJ Palacio’s Wonder is one of those rare books that simply stays with you for a long time. At least for me and for my daughters, who often bring up this phenomenal YA novel in the course of everyday conversation, and refer back to it  when we have those hard talks about injustice or social dynamics or the politics of friendship. So when I saw our friends at Litographs had added a new Wonder tee to their collection of graphic tees all designed from the words of novels, I knew I had a new favorite. Big news all around for Litographs t-shirt...

Is Stitch Fix worth it? Two brutally honest she said/she said reviews from two of our editors

As busy mamas, we admit we don’t always find the time to shop for ourselves. As we’ve heard more and more about Stitch Fix from friends posting photos of themselves in cute outfits from the online shopping service on social media, we’ve grown intrigued. We also had heard some controversy about the style choices, the return policies, and the mark-ups on the items they send, so we wondered whether paying fees for a service like Stitch Fix is worth it. So we thought it would be helpful for our readers to have two of our editors, each with different tastes and different lifestyles, try it out for...

Behind every product is a person: Excellent reminder from Krochet Kids.

We first featured Krochet Kids a few years back, and immediately loved this non-profit’s mission of creating gifts that give back, to help provide job training and a sustainable income source in impoverished communities around the globe. While they have big hearts, they have great taste too; their items are really stylish and wearable, something I also look for when we find fantastic fair trade companies to share here. Related: To the Market: Fashionable gifts and accessories that reinvent women’s lives. Now the organization has added one more cool item to their catalog: A t-shirt created in collaboration with Jeff Sheldon, who you might better know as Ugmonk. The...

The ABCs of Game of Thrones: A is for Arya

Hi, my name is Liz and I’m obsessed with Game of Thrones. So I’m cheering that the show has earned 24 well-deserved Emmy nominations — though oddly, no nods for comedy after that really bizarre Sandsnake fight scene in Dorne. In any case, while our children may be too young to watch the show (I told mine that 30 was an appropriate age), they’re not too young to know that W is for Winterfell. Or White Walker. Or, WHAT THE $&*!-ING  $&^%! which is pretty much what I screamed as the closing credits rolled after every episode this past season. Okay, maybe kids are a little young for that...
