I love black swimsuits — for me. But it never crossed my mind that one day my own daughter would refuse to wear much else (sigh). So, black swimsuits for my teen it is!

Despite how many adorable bright stripes, fun florals, and poppy tie-dye patterns are out there today, if you’ve got girls like mine who are like black swimsuits only, please, may this list give you a few cool options to help get you through summer with urban chic style.

Black nununu swimsuit for girls: Black on black star patterned halter

Nununu is always my go-to for all things edgy and black and swimsuits are no exception. We’ve had a few going into their third summer so while they are spendy, they hold up incredibly. This year, they sent us the black Nununu star collar swimsuit for girls to check out (I was a little iffy from the photo TBH) and wow! It’s like a modern take on a 40s-era suit, with a subtle black star on black pattern, and a boy short bottom that’s refreshingly modest. You can also see it at left in the very top photo.

If you’re wondering about sizing, the 12-14 fits my slim almost-13-year-old daughter perfectly. Oh, and she smiles a lot more in the suit than the website models are directed to do. Ha.

Black skull mask swimsuit for girls from Nununu

If you want serious edge, the black skull mask girls’ swimsuit, also from nununu, is so awesome. The fact that it’s all one piece of fabric — the sleeves are not sewn on separately and the only seams are down the sides and at the bottom — gives it a really cool look. More like a stylish tank top than a swimsuit. (Also, you can easily cut off that tag on the outside, though my kids actually like it.)

Girls racer style swimsuit tank in black from Lands End

If you prefer investing in a simple, solid swimsuit workhorse, Lands End is offering a classic racer-style girls tank swimsuit in black with a nice top-stitched racer stripe accent. It comes in sizes 4-16, so clearly it’s not just my older girls who are drawn to black swimsuits. Bonus: This one has an SPF 50 fabric and you know it will hold up a good long time. Because, Lands End.

Girls black scalloped swimsuit one-piece from J Crew

I am full on in love with this J Crew girls’ scalloped black one piece swimsuit, that balances the simplicity of the cut with that gorgeous scalloped accent. And it’s on sale! I especially love that while it’s stylish, if you’ve got an active swimmer or diver on your hands, this suit is not going anywhere.

Girls black scalloped swimsuit two-piece from J Crew

If you prefer a two-piece, they also offer the style as a scalloped black tankini set. It’s so popular, it’s only available through size 8Y, so grab quickly it if you’ve got a younger girl who’d love it. It’s also on sale right now.

Girls black crochet ruffle accent halter swimsuit

I can see why this girls festival crochet black swimsuit is a best-seller at Bloomingdale’s. The crochet ruffle gives it some flounce without it getting too cutesie, and the halter style is right on trend. Plus, the price is pretty good for a department store label. I’ll just ignore the fact that the brand is called Gossip Girl.

Black and white star patterned girls swimsuit from H&M

I’m so into this fun black and white star patterned girls swimsuit, which lets her sparkle without, you know, sparkles. And fear not — that pink is just the lining. No one will think she dared wear any color to the pool. Gasp. Great look at a great price from H&M.

Girls black and white tankini with gold accent stripe from Cat & Jack for Target

If she can tolerate a smattering of color or a metallic accent, Target comes through pretty nicely with black and white girls swimsuits when you search by color. I tracked down this Cat & Jack black and white striped tankini with an on-trend ruffled halter top. You could almost argue that gold isn’t actually a color color, right?

Cool black swimsuits for girls: Nununu two-piece shirtini with circle cutout

Okay, just one more from Nununu — because they have basically an entire collection of black swimsuits for girls and I could pick most of them. But I think this black circle shirtini for girls up to size 10-11Y is amazing — a comfy cut, a top and bottom we could totally mix and match with any other bikini sets, and then there’s that cool keyhole style cut-out on the back is stylish without being sexy at all. Just be sure to use lots of sunblock, because that would be one interesting tan line on her back!
