In a genius move, Scholastic Storybook Treasures has put out this classic on video, along with several others, but with a twist; they not only show the words on the screen, along with the original classic artwork, but there is an ASL presenter in front of the images signing the story as it is read out loud. I wouldn't go so far as to say that your child will absolutely learn American Sign Language by watching these videos. But I do think there's a lot to be gained from seeing the words on the screen paired with the verbal and visual aspects of the stories.
Other Sign Language DVD tiles include A Pocket for Corduroy and Five Little Monkeys, with two other stories on each disk. I guess what I love best about this brilliant collection is that now every child can experience "The old lady whispering 'hush'."--Betsy
