Has anticipation overwhelmed you yet? Are you ready for the new season premiere of Mad Men tonight? We can’t get enough petticoats, pencil skirts, Jackie O scarves and cat-eye sunglasses. (To say nothing of the actual storylines. Promise, we’re not just watching for the wardrobe!)
To celebrate the series that’s taken fashion by storm this season, I have found a few Mad Men inspired items that are fresh and modern for spring and summer of 2012–but don’t make you look like you’re wearing a costume. Or a pointy bra.
has a slightly pleated skirt and could be paired with either flats or
some summer wedges. I think Betty Draper would approve–from a budget
and a style standpoint. Maybe a pink cardigan over top?
The Banana Republic Mad Men collection recently launched, with a lot of wearable options. The accessories happen to be great too, including this monogram pearl clutch which is a versatile interpretation of similar ones we see in vintage shops. Great with an evening dress, or even skinny jeans and a cardigan.
One of our favorite labels is showing this Katya lace dress from Tibi
which is pretty for any summer wardrobe–provided you have great legs!
It has vintage flare with enough modern lines to keep it fresh and
today. But it’s definitely a splurge, at Piperlime.
What could be more flattering than a tailored dress in a pretty spring color? Hybrid, sold at ASOS, created this flattering pencil dress with subtle stretch in the material. Pumps make it more 60s, but I’d love it with high wedge sandals.
This fabulous print had me at hello! Perfect for a lawn party, patio party or any summer fun. Pair this Shoshanna dress from Piperlime,
with cute pumps for a fancier look and you are party material! Or if you’re more into greens than oranges, check out the beautiful Peggy Secretary Dress by Milly. Both are smart investments for your warm weather events, and bound to look
great next year too. You know, when we’re once again waiting for season 6 to start –Kirsten
