Ahoy mateys, it’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, one of our favorite should-be-a-real-holiday days of the year. And though my “pirate speak” is a little rusty, my ability to find some of the cutest and coolest pirate-related treasures is right on the mark. So keep reading for six of the best pirate-related gifts for the little landlubbers and scallywags in your crew.
Hopewell Creek Designs’ 9-piece felt pirate set (at top) has everything to get your buccaneers started: a handy treasure map, a compass, gold doubloons, a bottle of Pirate Rum, and the Jolly Roger flag to fly proudly on the mast of whatever they use as a ship. A finalist in Martha Stewart’s 2014 American Made awards, Becky Neafus’ craftsmanship and attention to detail make this set something special.
CMP favorite Stackblocks is at it again with their purple-and-gold pirate girl wooden blocks. These solid wooden blocks are made of strong birch and as sturdy as you’d expect a pirate to be. Halloween costume inspiration perhaps? (currently out of stock, but if you convo the shop and ask nicely, they may be able to pull together a special set)
Creative pirates will love their own set of special pirate crayons molded like doubloons from the UK Etsy shop, Colour Me Fun. I dig that each coin is imprinted with an image of either a treasure chest or skull and crossbones, and the two sizes are just right for little hands to hang onto while they scribble out a treasure map.
Those of you living on the other side of the high seas can be lucky enough to snag this super-cute pirate finger puppet kit that will keep little fingers busy making and playing. Those of us that aren’t marooned in the UK can still get a set, but you’ll have to round up a few more coins to cover the shipping charges. Yarrrrrr. . .
We’ve long loved Imaginative Play Toys‘ unique card table playhouses (like this pirate-themed one), though our young adventurers would also go coconuts over her Handmade Pirate Imagination bag. Each customizable messenger bag includes an adjustable pirate hat and a nicely made pirate vest, a detailed pirate treasure map, and a toy telescope and eye patch to complete the look. Love that the bags include your pirate’s name sewn onto the back so no one can pilfer their goods.
Red Beard and crew are ready to stick around for a good long time with Land of Nod’s set of friendly pirate wall decals. Group them all together as shown above, or spread Suzy Ultman’s illustrations all over the room so that the pirates really take over. The bedtime stories will almost tell themselves. (design is out of stock, but check out these other Pirate Wall Art options.)
