It’s become a tradition for us now to track down our favorite two-piece swimsuits for girls that are, shall we say, age appropriate? As a mother of two girls, the eldest of which is pretty much hitting tweendom (eep) I’m really glad that they still gravitate to tankinis, halter tops, rash guards and other not-so-teeny bikinis, but I also know first hand that those swimsuits can be hard to find.
Besides, I admit I get a little freaked out seeing ruching on the chest of a low cut size 2 bikini top. Are we trying to simulate cleavage on a toddler? Other things I avoid as a matter of personal preference: Side tie bottoms, plunging necklines, teeny triangle bikini tops, sequins. What I do like are suits that last more than one season, so I’m willing to spend a bit more for great quality; though I do like a bargain same as anyone.
I can say from experience that suits from places like Hanna Andersson, Tea, and J Crew are totally worth it. But still, I included a variety of prices here.
Of course there are always one-pieces too, but my girls love the mix-and-match options that two-piece suits offer, and parents of littler ones? There is no easy diaper change in a one-piece. If you’re searching for the same kinds of suits I am, I’ve put together some of my favorite suits out now for summer that are still feminine, fun, and sometimes frilly while still offering the coverage that lets girls splash around without a worry. That’s what childhood is for, right?

nice post Liz !!!
Couldn’t agree more with what you wrote, and your swimsuit selections. Thanks for this!
I am so happy to see this article. I am amazed at the clothes young girls wear. Unfortunately, it is not only swim wear that is skimpy, but every day clothing, but that is a subject for another day, I hope.
