The new Bathtime with Theo and Beau, from blogger turned social media sensation Jessica Shyba is the book that you think it will be, if you’re familiar with the original Naptime with Theo and Beau. Expect adorable, silly, awwww-invoking photos of her 2.5 year-old son bathing with the world’s cutest SPCA rescue puppy, Theo.
(Yes, Theo is the dog. We get confused too sometimes.)
While it’s designed for the youngest readers (and us sentimental parents), even my older girls want to tear out every photo and hang it on their walls next to the BB-8s and Kylo Rens. The photos, from the two pals getting dirty on the beach (don’t Beau’s funky Nununu leggings in that pic), to Theo sniffing at Beau’s little soapy baby toes, really is optimized for maximum squee potential.
Considering the book really is a photo essay all about love, I think it could be a sweet little Valentine’s gift for a toddler or early reader. However it also has the benefit of being a step-by-step primer on the fun bathtime, which just may help a few parents get reluctant kids into that tub more easily. In that sense, consider it a gift for the whole family.
Just know it is also likely lead to endless requests for a new puppy.
