If you loved the best-selling Sh*tty Mom book as much as we did when it came out four years ago, you will be as excited as we were to get our hands on its much-anticipated sequel, out just this week. If you couldn’t guess it from the title alone, Sh*tty Mom For All Seasons is a parenting guide like no other. And that’s a very, very, very good thing.
Let’s just say it feels like a parenting book from some renowned mom guru kidnapped by the writing staff of SNL and plied with lots of merlot.
This follow-up title by authors and NBC TODAY Show producers Alicia Ybarbo and Mary Ann Zoellner, along with writer Erin Clune, tackles all sorts of parenting situations you’re bound to encounter, sorted by season. From surviving spring break, to deciding on a summer vacation destination, and dealing with relatives over the holidays, they’ve got you covered with humor, empathy, and did I mention humor?
I was laughing out loud just one chapter in.
What’s so special about it is that the tips, tricks, and advice you’ll get, while hilarious, are are absolutely accurate, as if the authors got a peek into our own minds to put on paper what so many of us think already.
Take the spring cleaning section. You might be expecting some Pinterest-worthy tricks for cleaning windows and screens. Well, nope.
Clean the windows? Yourself? Hell, no. Hire someone to do this!

Now if you’re easily offended, or don’t love expletives, or are very, very serious about all things parenting, I can safely say this book is probably not for you. I mean, you should probably have figured that out based on the title (ahem), but if not, here it is spelled out for you: This is not a book for the highly sensitive parent who’s not big on irreverent humor.
But if you are desperate for a laugh around the tricks to get out of apple picking with your kids, or how to fool your kids to stay in bed longer after stupid Daylight Savings, then you will love this book.
Look, we all know that parenting is serious business. It’s exhilarating and exhausting, and can push you to your limits. Sometimes, beyond them. We love our kids. Deeply. So there’s something incredibly liberating about being able to escape for a little while and bask in the utter ridiculousness of it all.
As I always say, if we weren’t laughing, we’d be crying. And I hear laughing burns waaaaay more calories.
