I am always looking for a good stay-put lipstick, which means it uh, actually stays. Plus, it can’t be too drying, it has to distribute the pigment evenly, and it uh…actually has to stay put. Within reason of course.
Well hallelujah for Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment which is checking all the boxes perfectly.

I first was introduced to the Save the Queen shade, by a pro Sephora artist last fall — and I’m glad she tried it on me. Because it has the unfortunate description as a “dusty mauve,” and I wouldn’t have grabbed it online, but It’s actually a great everyday color for me.
Especially when I pop some Fenty Gloss Bomb over top to keep my lips a little shinier and more moisturized.
The perfect lips! Compare with the photo at top without gloss. And no filters!
Nars Powermatte described as a “full coverage liquified pigment,” which in in human terms, means that it does what it’s supposed to do. BUT. You really have to apply it carefully and get it on right… or wipe it off immediately, because it will start to stain your skin as it dries and then you’ll just look like you’ve been smooching someone with razor stubble all night.
You know what I’m talking about, gals.
The rigid, fairly narrow applicator tip helps with accuracy, but a lip liner can’t hurt. Go slow!
Other shades I love: Under My Thumb is the most perfect deep berry shade that I imagine looks good on all kinds of skin types. Rock With You (are you seeing a pattern with the names yet?) is an edgy, on-trend dark mulberry if you’re willing to go there.
And while I haven’t tried it yet, next I want Don’t Stop which is an amazing power red, and the kind of color I might have skipped with a regular lipstick, since it would be worn off in 20 minutes.
If you want to try a couple, grab the Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment Duo Love Triangle which offers two shades in 2.8 ml sizes — versus the full-size which is 5.5 ml — and available exclusively from Sephora Inside JCPenney. (Full disclosure, they’re a recent sponsor, which is actually how I first discovered and fell in love with the colors.)
I am so happy to have a new night-on-the-town lip color, you have no idea.
Last night in fact, I wore my Powermatte to an event that involved drinking wine, eating copious amounts of cheese cubes, and talking up a storm — and it was still on when I got home without having reapplied it.
Which is awesome. Because I am a lazy makeup-er.
