When I discovered the Chalk of the Town t-shirts at Toy Fair 2018, I was so excited! The basics: chalkboard shapes like talk bubbles or hearts on a tee, that kids can write on with chalk markers, wash…then start all over again.
Right away, I exclaimed that my kids would have loved having these for the Women’s March and — no surprise — turns out I know my kids pretty well. They flipped out over the shirt the company generously sent us to try out, and my middle schooler immediately added the hashtag #NeverAgain to hers and wore it to school the next day, to bring attention to the peaceful 17-minute school walkout on March 14 to commemorate the lives lost in Parkland, Florida .
So I had a great talk this week with the founder, mom Sondra Mansfield, who wants to support kids nationwide who plan on participating in peaceful school walkouts and the March for Our Lives, and an idea was born.

For a limited time, you (or your school or other group) can purchase one of the speak up Chalk of the Town chalkboard teesin heather grey, at a 30% discount for up to 19 shirts while supplies last. In addition, the company will donate $2 from the sale of any of the speak up t-shirts to March for Our Lives.
(Edited to Add: this promotion is now over, but the talk bubble shirts are still available in multiple colors!)
I am so moved by their generosity. Because we all know that kids have a lot to say — whatever it may be. And they definitely want to get involved with all the issues they care about whether it’s school safety, the environment, animals, or social justice.
