My organic-eating, organic-dressing, organic-playing kids sleep on regular old foam pillows. There, I said it: they spend half of their lives with cuddling up with chemical-filled foam. Not one of the greatest horrors of childhood, of co…
It's hard trying to sort through all the plastic safety issues these days when it comes to feeding our kids. Between BPA, pthalates, melamine fears and microwave warnings, sometimes I just want to throw up my hands in frustration; does e…
I remember the time I told a friend that I was pregnant with my third child in less than four years. She shook her head and said sagely, You're about to be outnumbered. Good luck with that. While there are definitely times my husband and…
Qu'est-ce que c'est? Why it's only the sweetest cardboard play structure I've ever laid eyes on. Okay, I've only laid eyes on it online, but still. I think my children need this thing, stat. The French Café from Little Play Spaces takes …
I'm only one person with one meager budget and very limited time. How can I do something important and meaningful this October to show my support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when I can't donate a gazillion dollars and don'…
In spring, a young man's thoughts lightly turn to love. In fall, everyone's thoughts turn to a really kickass Halloween costume. Right? If you're looking for something really special this year , that will last past midnight on the 31st, …
Need a gift for the superstar girl who has everything? She could be 8. Or heck, 38. Either way, I think she'll like this adorable necklace which it turns out, is a lot more than a necklace. The Super Star Stamp Necklace is an adorable, e…
Always Saturday makes me happy. While this is technically a "kids" band, the beats are appropriate for big people, too. I'm thinking of their CD as a dance party waiting to happen, and I just want to be a part. After all, any band that e…
When I first discovered Mommy Poppins I remember thinking, oh finally--a non-pretentious guide to all the best things to do around New York and the NYC area. There is rarely a week in which I fail to check the site to find free activitie…
Indian patterns are totally (and beautifully) on-trend right now-- we wrote about Ikats and other beautiful prints a few months ago, and our allegiance has yet to waver. Especially since we saw these lovely designs. Hammocks & High Tea '…
They say your hands show your age. In which case I'm in trouble. The last time I tried to pamper my hands was when a relative gave me a Mary Kay Manicure Set as a gift that had been -- gulp -- used. There were fingernail gouges in the cr…
As I have mentioned here before, I have a real sweet spot for nursery art prints. While my daughter's room may be the size of your suburban walk in closet, I will always keep an eye out for another something special to squeeze onto her t…
More than 10 years ago, author/illustrator Sara Midda first published a lovely baby book as an alternative to those structured, rigid baby books with all those intimidating lines. (You know the ones.) Only for some reason, I just discove…
There's a lot of pink out there in October, and that's a great thing. We applaud any effort to fight breast cancer by spreading awareness or raising donations for research and support. Still, if pink's not your color, we'd like to introd…
While the fancy cupcake trend has now hit just about every town in America, you don't need to spend a fortune to get a good cupcake or even one that your kids will consider cool . Whether you're going store-bought or baking at home, I th…
I think having a baby would be so much easier if the getting from point A to point B wasn't such a pain the butt. In my family, we've tried pretty much all of the travel systems that are supposed to make life simpler; let's just say that…
Good news mama! We are so excited to get to offer one of you a huge prize pack of amazing eco-friendly beauty, skincare, and haircare products, thanks to our exciting collaboration with PureWow and ecomom . We're so pleased to be partner…
I love pancakes. They are soft, sweet, and super fun. Oh, and my kids love them too. So I love that Jim Belosic has captured pancake pride so beautifully with a new book, all about pancakes, that could turn you into the favorite parent o…
Whether I'm ready or not, it's officially fall, and the hats and scarves are starting to fill the stores, as I needed another reminder that cold weather is on its way. If you're starting to track down fall accessories for your daughters,…
The cutest little girl in my daughter's class always wears this fuzzy vest to school, and I'm trying to use it to convince my daughter to ditch her own awful one that a relative gave her years ago and upgrade to a new one. (Those fuchsia…
I don't remember having trouble learning how to use a straw but, then again, I'm about four decades past that stage in life. It was my kids who made me realize that "straw use" was going to be another one of those odd little skills I was…
On the nights I play "tooth fairy," the last thing I want to do is wake a child while I shove my arm under their pillow in a not-so-subtle search for a tiny tooth. So I love that one of our favorite beautiful-keepsake makers, Tree by Ker…
One day the kids are happily singing along to Yo Gabba Gabba; the next, they've somehow learned lyrics to a Katy Perry song that makes me blush. Ugh, they cross that bridge so fast. I suggest you slow your older kids down a bit with The …
