If you heeded our love for the Q Collection's junior line and picked up one of their gorgeous cribs, you need some worthy bedding to go with it. Heck, even if you have a different crib, there's no reason you can't go for some charming an…
Not everyone wants another piece of jewelry for Mother's Day. So if you've got a mama on your list who prefers to give than to receive, I recommend checking out Global Giving and their Mother's Day menu of fantastic, women and family-ori…
It seemed like the great anticipation of meeting your baby was quickly dashed by the fact that he really doesn't do anything but sleep, eat, and poop. Or, if you're my babies, just eat and poop -- apparently sleep was optional. While I w…
People are always asking me whether I dress my girls in the clothes we feature here. Well, some of it, sure. But hey, I'm not made of money. I splurge on a few key items and mix it up with the sales rack jeans and the 2 for $10 cotton te…
New Yorkers definitely think we have it made with kids boutiques, but I must say my sisters, these days I think the DC area is giving us a run for our money. The latest entrant: The Pajama Squid in Takoma Park, which just opened a very s…
My daughter takes after me in many ways - her messy hair, her penchant for arguing, and her love for getting out the stationery and writing a thank you note for a gift. I'm succeeding as a mother on one point at least. The oversized stor…
Oh, the poor new dad. Not only does he have a demanding new baby at home, he's probably got a demanding new hormonal mom around the house to contend with too. Really want to make her day next Sunday? Forget flowers and perfume - just try…
Whoever invented magic markers was not a parent. While it's bad enough that crayons end up in teeny little shards all over our floor, at least there are no caps to lose - and then find again. In the baby's mouth. As I race towards her ye…
I have a terrible time parting with my baby's clothes when they're outgrown. I end up tossing favorite ones in a bag for, um...stuffed animals? Dolls? Quiet moments alone with a bottle of Chardonnay? I don't know. But I don't want to get…
The thing about computer games for early-elementary kids is that there is a precarious balance to be struck between learning and fun. You want it to be educational (justification, justification) but if it's too difficult or dry it won't …
Having been on the search for unique twin gifts, I admit to succumbing to the totally uncreative "two of the same thing." So before you moms of twins boo me off your screen, wait until you see my sweet redemption: the Copy and Paste twin…
Cool Mom Picks is partnering with Munchkin to find a wee bit more about all the cool parents of the world. Stuff like what kind of toys you like, whether the sigOth is a better housekeeper than you are, what TV mom you best relate to. (U…
Do you ever listen to music and think, "Seriously, how do people make these kinds of wonderful sounds?" Me too. And I just did when I checked out Funky Kidz : Kinda lame name, but pretty great album. Funky Kidz features a collection of n…
Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I was so happy the day I realized my baby was old enough to hold her own in a crib full of toys. Not only does it give her a way to keep herself occupied in the wee hours of the morning, but it is a handy place to…
If there's anything I like about throwing a party (other than the actual partying part) it's the amassing of all the themed goodies. Apparently my inner Martha comes out and I end up searching high and low for the plates that match the c…
Okay so I admit to a little stroller remorse with my Bugaboo. Not that I don't love it (I really, really love it) but I'm getting a little tired of the red after three years. Which is also why it's a good thing that I never got a tattoo.…
I've been a champion of swaddling since my first baby. Transforming a wiggly little newborn into a baby burrito does wonders to settle him--and me--down. Since my new baby boy is the wiggliest of all three of my kids, I keep a swaddling …
Our friends at Sk*rt , soon to be known The Website Formerly Known as Sk*rt, are in a bit of a pickle. It seems they want a new name, stat. We suggested Pilot Inspektor but rats, it was already taken. Maybe you have a better idea? Head t…
Not every mama wants something on Mother's Day. Plenty of mamas are very happy with just a phone call, a handmade card or a contribution in her name to a decent cause. For that latter group, TreePeople is a great dot-org that does some g…
While I'm definitely a sucker for jewelry with lots of bells and whistles (okay, diamonds too), I was surprisingly taken with the simplicity of the concentric circles necklace by Lisa Leonard . The smooth sterling circles hung from a dai…
When I had the chance to try out the new Silver Cross stroller, the Dazzle , I jumped at it. This is the stroller brand ("pram" if you're fancy) favored by the likes of Jennifer Garner, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Lopez...you might have …
Back when I was carrying my babies around, if you wanted an earth-friendly choice you could've gotten a really ugly hemp sling. If you wanted something earth-friendly in a structured carrier, well, you were completely out of luck. Today'…
I've always had a thing for Lewis Carrol but most of the Alice prints that would be cute for a little girl's room have a 19th century feel that doesn't jibe with my modern decor. Then I came across the Tea With White Rabbits print from a…
In the final weeks of my pregnancies, I was alphabetizing my CDs, scrubbing out the kitchen cabinets, and laundering everything in sight. I most certainly was not thinking about packing my hospital bag. If I'd known about the ready-packe…
