I'll admit it: I was prejudiced. Before I heard the newly released Soulville and All Together Now from Little Monster Records , I was prejudiced against CDs whose singers included a "children's chorus," codeword for "cheese." Thankfully,…
I have been standing by observing the current "big ring" craze and wishing to be someone I'm not. The fact of the matter is that I'm a dreadful klutz, and I have long eschewed wearing even a normal-sized ring with a raised stone because …
As my big girl heads off to first grade (sob), I'm at home with a little girl who wants to do everything her big sister does, including learning the very same things. The mom-run company, Write Way to Learn , is going to be a huge help t…
Frequent CMP readers know that whoo-hoo! is about our most favorite phrase in the whole wide world. Whoo-hoo you won a free stroller! Whoo-hoo we're featured in Real Simple Magazine! Whoo-hoo we just discovered the best ever cupcakes and…
I'm sure you've noticed: Any physical activity is harder when you're carrying or wearing an infant. Despite this knowledge, I never did find a baby-and-me workout video I liked. Everything I've seen since my daughter was born four years …
When I got married (the first time... ahem), we received endless items from Crate and Barrel. And don't get me wrong, it's all very useful stuff, but... well... plain. Boring. So color me surprised to see that C&B's younger, hipper sibli…
My mother-in-law is always bugging me about what she should get my son. Sadly, my indecision has led to a showering of scary expensive outfits (emphasis on the scary part) that just end up collecting dust in his closet. So if you've got …
We've been evangelists for room decor-by-decal (and decal and decal and decal and decal) from the beginning. Just search our site for "decal." There's lots. In part because we know that tastes change faster than you can say ooh, look at …
With fall rapidly approaching, I've been on the lookout for the perfect jacket for my toddler son. Since I live in the South, it can be hard to find a jacket that's light enough for our short fall season, but that's hearty enough to get …
While I may not always feel smartre enough for Sartre, The Woollyhoodwinks vs. the Dark Patch is one for this existentialist. With a mix of cute handmade sock-puppet-looking things (the aforementioned Woollyhoodwinks ) and whimsical sent…
I had my fair share of hearty chuckles after discovering Motherhood with Attitude's hilarious greeting cards last year. So when co-owner Janalee Chmel clued me in to their new Thank You Card Box Set , it's no wonder I nearly peed my pant…
Cool Mom Picks takes no official position on the presidential candidates besides keeping our eyes out for the coolest tees of the season on both sides of the aisles. Apologies to the GOP readers amongst us, but I believe the winner goes …
If you've been pining for the kind of baby book you might still pull off your mom or grandmother's shelves when you go for a visit, why I think we've actually found it. Mother Stork's Baby Book: 100th Anniversary Edition is a beautiful v…
I won't be winning any cooking awards any time soon, but as far as the concoctions my daughter and son are creating in their play kitchen, courtesy of Haba's new Biofino line of cloth play food , they're on their way to winning Top Chef.…
If you're one of the millions of moms who, like us, pass the time in the OB waiting room by flipping through Parents Magazine and then sneak it out in your bag (shhhhhh!), chances are you might have caught Cool Mom Picks co-founder and e…
In my 20's, I'd go to a small dark club in Rhode Island to watch obscure indie rock bands play loud, jangly music. We were a fairly homogeneous group, save for one earplugged little girl of about 3 who would sit on her dad's shoulders an…
I'm generally not so keen on clothes that emphasize a baby's already cute-as-it-is butt with ruffles and words like, um... juicy . But a monster -- like the one on Sckoon's Ha Ha Tee and Monkey Pant Set ? Cripes, I can't think of anythin…
You wouldn't think a bunch of blabbermouths like our family would need help starting a conversation, but I've got to thank The Chatterbox for providing some welcome encouragement in that area. Instead of questions about obscure Baby Boom…
Have you ever entered a room in which the kids have been playing (usually too quietly) only to find that they have rearranged all the couch and chair cushions so that they can walk (tumble, jump) around the entire room without stepping o…
When it comes to buying gifts for my friend's kids, I really try hard to find unique items that no one else would think of, but aren't so obscure that the poor kid has to ask his parents what the heck it is. Enter the Dumpling Dynasty Ex…
Despite my insistence that it would never happen, the toys have in fact eaten our living room whole. I evidently can't keep the toy animals and crayons and blocks and play silks restricted to the kids' room, so the least I an do is find …
Have you tried Hint Water yet? You have to. You just totally have to. Take it from me, because I'm not a flavored water fan. Mostly I think water is pretty darn good, and it doesn't need a whole lot of flavoring. But Hint Water--all natu…
My favorite baby clothes were always the beefy cotton ones - just good, simple soft basics that felt cushy and cozy, that I knew wouldn't start to look worn or faded after a few weeks of the puke-wash-puke-wash cycle. Parade Organic 's P…
Thanks to Cool Mom Picks, I've expanded my babywearing horizons to include wraps and slings, but I can never abandon my beloved Swedish front carrier standby, no matter how much drool coats its surface. However thanks to My Little Roo , …
