Modern children’s rugs are that one item that hasn’t quite proliferated at the same speed as other modern nursery decor. Mostly your rug choices for the kids’ room are stripes, butterflies, or um . . . stripes. But I’ve just discovered the really lovely children’s rugs from artist Katherine Yaphe at Oliver Yaphe and suddenly my kids’ floor is crying out for a makeover.

The hand-knotted wool area rugs feature charming motifs like buttons, pears, or the word “love” highlighted in the alphabet, all using clean colors and fun squiggly lines. I particularly love the button and heart-adorned family tree designs for their ability to make a seamless transition from baby’s room to kid’s room. At least if you keep the finger paints off them.

The only drawback: Because they’re all made to order, they can take up to six months to receive. Order yours with that first sonogram. –Liz

Oliver Yaphe children’s rugs will soon be available at Modern Tots and at Blue Bench NYC. Or order direct by emailing [email protected] and save 25% through May 1 when you mention Cool Mom Picks. Also save 25% on childrens art at her etsy shop when you mention Cool Mom Picks.

Congratulations to Tracy R and Heather M, who will each receive a canvas from Katherine Yaphe!
