When I first discovered Scout Baby organic children’s clothes at the Bubble trade show a few years ago, it was still a big deal to find fair trade organic clothes that were so soft and so vibrantly colored. Now a lot has changed in that world, and a lot has changed with Scout too.
Mimi Leinbach’s organic kids’ clothing line still features soft, high-quality, made-for-play clothes for babies and toddlers, but the spring/summer collection has evolved from featuring esoteric tribal symbols to more classic motifs like monkeys and sharks, all on lovely solids or thick stripes.
I totally love the basic camp shirts for boys which are comfy and a little stretchy and so (so!) hard to find without tools or trucks on them. And the striped girls’ dresses are both feminine and playground ready. Such is the benefit of a good, sturdy cotton. I’m also digging the cotton twill skirt with the shorts built right in–a godsend. While the other clothes are slightly generous, this one runs a little small in the waist so if you’ve got a skinny little toddler like I do it’s perfect.
While prices are pretty reasonable, if you’ve got a second kid, divide it in half; these are the clothes designed to last through both of them. –Liz
