A week after our summer vacation rental, I still couldnโt get the musty smell of the house out of my clothes. I also couldnโt forget the splintery deck, scary spiral stairs, and tangle of electrical wires that stressed me out as much as it enticed my three- and six-year-old boys. While weโve covered sites like Airbnb and Home Away as great options for finding family vacation rentals, now thereโs one more โ Kid & Coe.
This new site is made just for family vacation rentals, and they all look like they came out of a shelter magazine.
While the site isnโt as feature-rich as the rental sites, thereโs a lot of reasons itโs worth putting on your radar if you travel with your kids. Mom Zoie Kingsbery Coe founded Kid & Coe after years of traveling with her own kids, and it shows. Detailed descriptions of each space include specifics about stuff like cribs, high chairs, toys and books, gaming consoles, pets, and nearby activities with families in mind.
The site currently has a small list of select properties all over the world that I hope will grow, but the amazing sounding homes they do have make up for a smaller inventory. Itโs all about curation.
Their most extensive rentals cover the New York area, including the Hudson Valley, the Hamptons, and New York City, but Iโve already got my eye on this cool mid-century modern cabin in Sonoma for next summer vacation. And thereโs plenty abroad too, whether you have your eye on Paris, Sydney, Copenhagen or the Greek Islands. And thereโs nice reassurance in the fact that each place has been vetted by the founders; but then there are properties that have been personally visited by a Kid & Coe photographer, and those are indicated with a KC-verified stamp.
Youโd imagine the prices would be crazy high for properties like this, but Iโm surprised to find theyโre comparable to similar sites, and of course more affordable than hotels. Some homes rent for as low as $200 a night up plus a cleaning and service fee, which is impressive. Though sure, you can spend $3,300 a night for a glamorous beachfront villa in Anguilla.
I like the standard refund policy which provides refunds in full if you cancel six weeks before a scheduled arrival, but read the fine print to see if the property hosts are on board with that policy. Also, the calendar-based search is basic but helpful, but Iโd really like to see them add a search function with price ranges since you know, weโre not all looking for $3,3300/night villas for our kids.
Also know that reviewsโimperative for any vacation rental siteโare not on the site yet. However they are coming in October. For now you just have to go on the photos and the word of the founders. But despite these caveats, and even with the limited property selection, Iโm still inclined to hit Kid & Coe to look for options for my next family trip.
Just a warning though: scan through the property listings, and you may want to do a total renovation on your own home. Theyโre that amazing.
Check out Kid & Coe for the best looking family vacation rentals weโve ever seen in one place.
