Don’t be afraid of the title of our most recent episode of SPAWNED. To be fair, Kristen did let her kids watch death, or as you might know it, The Princess Bride. It actually led to a very lively discussion about kids and media. How do you know what to let your kids watch and when? And why are we so much more freaked out about some things than our parents were? Plus, we share a few of our online dating stories and quiz each other on our Dating Instant No’s which we actually disagreed on! We’d love for you to take the quiz along with us.

Kristen tried the Hinge dating app, which connects potential dates through Facebook friends. It seemed harmless enough but um, well. Maybe not.

Liz wrote about Grease on her blog after realizing how many inappropriate things there are in the movie and how many went over our own heads as kids.

Liz interviewed Hugh Jackman for her review of the Les Miserables movie in which discusses why he’d let his own kids watch the movie.

We mention Selma as another (amazing) movie with tough themes that addresses issues that kids should learn about. Also check out Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom: My Story of the Selma Voting Rights March, a memoir by Lynda Blackmon Lowery (as told to Elspeth Leacock and Susan Buckley) that we featured in our round-up of 10 outstanding Black History Month books for kids of all ages. Of course they are important every month of the year.

And we recommend Common Sense Media (and the companion app for iOS and Android) as a good resource for learning about whether a specific movie is appropriate for your children.

Liz’s Cool Pick of the Week:  Paper dolls are back! We found the motherlode of free printable paper dolls for pop culture junkies.

Kristen’s Cool Picks of the Week:  Facebook just added “see first” – here’s how to customize your News Feed.

If you’re so inclined we’d really appreciate you leaving a review and rating (5 stars, perhaps?) on our iTunes page, preferable one filled with lots of nice things. It really does help other people find our podcast, which we greatly appreciate.
