I was a teen when Live Aid rocked the world, and saw how powerful musicians can be when they come together for a cause. Now, many years later, another group of musicians has come together, this time on a fabulous childrenโ€™s CD to benefit the Haitian Peopleโ€™s Support Project which helps the people in Haiti who are still recovering from the devastating earthquake.

And, in case you were wondering: The music, like the cause, is awesome.

Conceived by versatile musician and CMP favorite, Dean Jones, the album Many Hands: Family Music for Haiti quickly became a reality after receiving the support and label backing from Spare the Rock Recordsโ€™ Bill Childs, a huge supporter of great family music (and one of our favorite people).

I love that almost every song on this CD is original and those involved either donated their time or drastically reduced the cost of their services to insure that as much money as possible could go to the people of Haiti. In fact, Iโ€™m sure that every single musician who was approached jumped at the chance to be on this CD, considering Many Hands is jam-packed with 22 tracks! The big names involved include Dan Zanes, Lunch Money, They Might Be Giants and Gustafer Yellowgold, but the lesser-known artists are no less wonderful.

Starting with the soft melodic voice of Emily Curtis on We Belong, Many Hands quickly turns upbeat with Rani Arbo and daisy mayhemโ€™s Here We Go, Zudio. And while this isnโ€™t exactly a rocking CD, I was struck by how upbeat the tempo and lyrics are throughout the whole album.

Overall itโ€™s a medly of hope, positivity and support for people who still need our help many months after their earthquake has left the front-page of the newspaper. Plus, your kids will love it. -Christina
