by Liz Gumbinner | Books for Kids, Doing Good, Thinking : Parent

Today, the second Monday in October, is the day that’s been traditionally celebrated as “Columbus Day” in the U.S., but knowing now what we know about Christopher Columbus, the holiday is fast transforming into Indigenous People’s Day. If...

This wonderful activity kit for kids welcomes refugees to their new home.

by Christina Refford | Doing Good, Toys + Playthings

As the daughter of an immigrant and a long-time resident of Massachusetts, I watched in disgust as Florida’s governor tried to humiliate and punish vulnerable migrants by flying them, unannounced, to the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Without any support...

Donate to an abortion fund. You’ll save a life.

by Liz Gumbinner | Doing Good, Thinking : Parent

To say that I am furious about an activist Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade (held up in 1992 in Planned Parenthood vs Casey) and thereby overturning 50 years of constitutionally protected rights to reproductive healthcare — well, that would be the...

How to talk to your children about mass shootings, bombings, and other tragedies in the news: Helpful resources

by Liz Gumbinner | Doing Good, Thinking : Parent, Tips + Tricks

Another day, another mass shooting. And I’m not being flip. This week it’s the unfathomably awful shooting at Robb Roy Elementary in Uvalde Texas.  Just last week it was a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.  This just adds to the already unconscionable list...

Hi! We’re Kristen + Liz!

Kristen Chase + Liz Gumbinner of Cool Mom Picks We started Cool Mom Picks in 2006 to help make life cooler, more meaningful, and more fun for parents of all kinds.

Trivia: It was called Cool Mom Sh*t for the first two days. (Yeah, we rethought that.)

We had no idea our site would grow to become a major lifestyle network, that we'd end up sharing our finds with the TODAY Show and Martha Stewart, that we'd be able to make a real difference for so many small businesses and women-run companies, or that we'd end up with an incredible community of the coolest readers on the planet. (If we do say so ourselves).

We still love what we do every single day. And we're so glad you're here.
