In many ways, technology has made raising children a whole lot easier. Just look at the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! But one of the greatest inventions for moms and dads, in our opinion, is the podcast.
If you’re not fortunate enough to live in Northhampton, Massachusetts, where you can listen to the weekly kidscast Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child, you can access the podcast of it on demand, right through your iTunes.
STRSTC is like your best friend making your kids a mixed tape–if your best friend were a hipster music fan dad with a CD collection that could fill three rooms of your house. Every broadcast starts with a song from perrenial favorite They Might Be Giants, then moves on to an ecclectic range of kid-friendly (and often unexpected) tunes from Laurie Berkner to Ween to Ella Fitzgerald.
But my favorite aspect may not even be the music–it’s the entertaining exchanges between host Bill Childs, and his co-host, his school-aged daughter Ella. The April Fool’s Day program is a classic.
You’ll find simple instructions here on how to either subscribe, download an mp3 of an archived show directly or listen to the show live and streaming on Saturday mornings. I swear, if I can do it, anyone can. –Liz
This sounds great. I can’t wait to get my kids to burn a CD for the car — I’m so over Radio Disney.
Radio Disney, Elisa? RADIO DISNEY? Phew, you got here right in time.
Thanks for featuring this – I downloaded it to iTunes (took forever) but there are plenty of rainy days in next week’s forecast and I’m looking forward to playing this for my toddler!
