Lullabies Not Just a Mother Could Love

Working with children for many years has exposed me to copious amounts of "kid music," most of which is very—um—catchy. (Read: it runs on an endless loop inside your head, making you want to schedule yourself for a lobotomy.)

Working with children for many years has exposed me to copious amounts of "kid music," most of which is very—um—catchy. Lullaby albums are worse, ranging anywhere from hippie wannabe dreck to flat out muzac. But then there’s the new CD by Renee Stahl & Jeremy Toback, It’s a Big World.
This talented musical duo has published a brilliant collection of original sleepytime songs with uplifting and touching lyrics and a stripped-down, sophisticated sound that is more reminiscent of Aimee Mann and Jack Johnson than some bright-fuzzy-puppet-type kids’ music act. Hear samples at CD Baby or download from iTunes, and you’ll see what I mean.
I have been listening to this CD for days and trust me when I tell you that you’ll be singing it to yourself long after your children have fallen asleep. And you won’t even mind a bit. – Tina
