Knitting 101 That Looks Like Knitting 504

It’s easy to appreciate beautifully hand-knitted garments, but creating them isn’t necessarily a piece of cake. The mere presence of two X chromosomes does not endow a woman with a talent for needlework (as much of the CMP staff will assure you).

Lovell’s Knit Kits are the next best thing to having an experienced knitter by your side as you take on your first projects. This family-run business out of New Zealand (with a totally fabulous website) offers up kits include everything you’ll need to complete hats, sweaters, blankets, and more–along with squooshably soft 100% Merino wool in seven different colors. I’m especially taken with the newborn set of mittens and Mary Janes, as well as the pod hat set (shown here).
The kits indicate the skill level required – don’t worry, there are plenty of beginner kits – and even experienced knitters will enjoy trying the more challenging styles like the cute hoodie pullover.
Leave the acrylic cable-knit sweaters in the 1970s where they belong – and kindly ask your mother-in-law to do the same. –Julie
Congrats to Lesha and Jenn M who each won a snug hat knit kit from Lovells.
