Despite my irrational fear of fish touching me in the ocean (damn you, Spielberg!) I wanted to make sure my daughters fell in love with the water from the start. Of course it was the sigOth who ended up taking them into the ocean thanks to my other irrational fear – a child slipping out of my hands.
Certainly I’m delighted to have discovered the Clene Baby Carrier at DoGree Online. It’s a Bjorn-style carrier, only made out of a fancy version of neoprene (Neoclene, get it?) that lets you dangle the kiddo safely from your chest both in and out of the water.
The thing stays cool in the sun and warm when it’s wet, then drips dry quicker than you’d think. If your kid’s under 35 pounds, you’re good to go. There are a few colors to choose from, but I think the black and white hibiscus print is muy fabuloso for the summer – or a winter weekend down at your grandma’s poolside condo in Boca. Where, I hear, there’s not a single shark to be found. –Liz
