I know it’s not just my kids who turn every box into a spaceship or seem to have their heads in the clouds. And I’m certain that they won’t be the only ones for whom Recess Monkey’s new kids’ music CD
The Final Funktier is like rocket fuel for their dancing shoes and their imagination.
Kicking off with a boppy-yet-silly rocket-launch countdown that leads into a groovy
Moon Boots, the three Seattle teachers that make up Recess Monkey have put together one of our must-have kids’ CD’s each year much like their last CD,
Field Trip, a Cool Mom Picks
2009 Pick of the Year.
The Final Funktier covers a lot of ground—er space—from the smooth, soft rock of The Galax Sea, to the Latin-flavored Constellation Conga, with the kind of smart, punny lyrics you’d expect from a trio of educators. New-wave sounds abound, though they are grounded in happy-pop beats, jangly guitar and cool voices.
The keyboard of Chris Wiser, also of the
Sugar Free Allstars, helps funkify the super-cool
Booster Seat, one of my favorite tracks on the CD. In fact, Recess Monkey have picked up quite a few notable names on this latest CD, from bands like CMP faves
Caspar Babypants,
The Not-Its! and
Gustafer Yellowgold.
And who can blame them? This is one inter-gallactic voyage that my kids have eagerly joined as well. -Christina
Congratulations to Kristi D, lucky winner of a copy of The Final Funktier!
