It’s National Women’s Business Week this week. Or at least, officially. Because in my mind, every week women should be in business.
One of the big supporters of this week is uber designer, mom, and friend-to-women everywhere Tory Burch, and she’s asked us to share with you some of the cool stuff she’s doing right now.
[don’t miss a fun giveaway after the jump]
Her amazing dot-org, The Tory Burch Foundation
was set up to help women in this country with business opportunities
through needed microloans. It’s a great org to consider supporting on
its own. Or, you know, through shopping.
And
so this week, 100% of the profits from some of the designer products at
Tory’s shop are going directly to the foundation. You’ll find a cool charm bracelet, a pretty scarf, totes and tees featuring her trademark sunflower design, and my favorite, the world charm necklace (at right). It’s not cheap, but if you were jonesing for Tory’s fun studded cuff anyway, this is the perfect opportunity to grab yourself one.
See?
That’s us supporting women in business. Who are supporting other women
in business. Who are supporting their families and their communities.
Awesome how that works, isn’t it. –Liz

Rue 54 in Harvey ND inspired me to start my own coffee shop that will be open next June!
Here’s a woman-owned business that I think is fabulous. It’s the sister-in-law of a friend of mine. I’m saving to purchase one of their camera bags as soon as I can! Stylish, well-made and just a really great idea. Even if I don’t win this giveaway, I’d love for you to feature ONA Bags on Cool Mom Picks – there are so many camera-toting moms out there who deserve to do so in style that this is just too great a site too NOT tell them about!

My friend Jessica is a fabulous baker and in her spare time (like anyone has spare time) she opened her own cupcake business called Red Velvet Savannah. Just her making time to do what she loves and make money at it, inspires me!

Kendall Marcelle Design Associates in Fort Lauderdale. I may be a bit biased because this is my sister but she started this business out of her bedroom and has made it into a successful South Florida design company. She works really hard but knows how to play too.

My sister is in the process of opening her own store which will feature cupcakes and tea. I am in awe of her courage at this endeavor and also just how much stuff she has to juggle to get it started.

I absolutely adore this woman, and she has made a huge name for herself while helping others succeed with their itty biz. She never fails to bring humor to her formidable game:

One women owned business that inspires me is Scraptasia, a scrapbooking store in Berkeley Heights, NJ. While I do not know the owner, and have not been to the store often, a dear friend of mine works there and the place is amazing. Not only does Dawn, the owner, have a 2 year old, but she runs the store with help from just a few employees, runs the website, blogs about crafty things, and still has time to be a mom. Since my daughter was born, I have not had a chance to sit down and scrapbook anything from her life yet, but I get inspiration from what Dawn is able to do while having a child the same age as my own.
Flower Films, owned by Drew Barrymore.
My friend Nicole has her own business where she dyes and sells her own yarn and knitting/crocheting patterns…they are to ‘dye’ for! 🙂
