I am used to seeing my kids pushing buttons, laughing delightedly as they zoom around another wii game, or play with their father’s tablet. But, let me tell you, I wasn’t prepared to see them having the same reaction to a simple three-color picture book.

With no special effects, bright lights or fancy touch screen, this is a book that will captivate. It just took two words to suck my kids into this new release by French artist and illustrator Herve Tullet: Press Here. And who can blame them? All day long, I tell them not to touch things. A book that invites, that commands, them to press? Why, yes, thank you, I think I will.

Kids follow the commands on each page, then turn to see the “results” of their actions. If your kid is three or ten, they’re going to think the book is pure magic. Especially when, toward the end of the book, the commands change from pressing, blowing, tilting and tapping to clapping. It seems appropriate that this book ends with furious clapping.

Bravo, Herve Tullet! This is a hit. -Christina
