There is something so special about children’s clothes with history. Hand-me-downs aren’t just a frugal choice: there’s often meaning in seeing your child in his grandpa’s favorite college sweatshirt. And now there’s a talented artist who’s preserving those memories–and clothing–in a truly special way.
Kindred Cloth (even the name is divine) is a family owned business that runs on love and extraordinary talent. They’re applying remarkable talent to creating special outfits for children, by transforming a parent’s old shirt or other garment into something gorgeous and new.
You can choose from their own ready-made designs from vintage fabrics (seen above) or send in one of your own garments and they can create something entirely custom. The options are endless; what was once a long-sleeved dress shirt can be transformed into a carefully constructed skirt for a first birthday bash, or a even a Christening dress.
While this is heirloom recycling at its finest, unfortunately, it does not come cheap at all. Contact Kindred to talk about your specific dreams, but be aware that the ready-made pieces start at $50 for a pair of bloomers (as adorable as they are) and custom pieces start at $175.00. So I’d just say this service is less about transforming a favorite tee, and more about creating the most special First Communion dress from something that holds generations of family history. –Eva
