I am a pretty big fan of SiriusXMโ€™s Kids Place Live for many reasons, but mostly because it is hands-down the best media outlet providing todayโ€™s family music makers the national exposure they deserve. The station brings the best in kindie rock and all-ages entertainment into the cars and living rooms across the country and save plenty of us parents from a backseat full of bored kids.

The summerโ€™s programming on KPL will feature three exclusive new series that are totally worth tuning into.

Kids Place Live, if you havenโ€™t yet discovered, is much more than a typical radio station and thatโ€™s because the creative team behind it, hosts Mindy, Robbie and Jack, pour their heart, souls and wild wackiness into everything they do, including:

The Sing-Along Summer Concert Series
Kicking off on the first day of summer, June 21, with superstar Laurie Berkner, The Sing-Along Summer concert series will feature a new live performance each week โ€“all for a group of lucky fans in the NYC studio. Upcoming performances will include CMP favorites like Recess Monkey, Justin Roberts, and the Sugar Free Allstars.

Kindie Music Mashups

These hybrid creations were recorded at a mass jam session this spring which brought together twelve bands paired up in teams to perform each otherโ€™s biggest hits in their own styles. Performing artists in the mashups include recent GRAMMY Award winners The Okee Dokee Brothers, The Not-Its, Brady Rymer, Charlie Hope and more. Check out the teaser video and youโ€™ll be as stoked as I am.

They started last night at 9PM, but you can hear the replay Saturdays at 9 and 5, and Sunday at noon.

The Story Pirates

If your kids need more theatre in their lives (and who doesnโ€™t!), youโ€™ll love the non-profit theater group, the Story Pirates. Their weekly two-hour show (Sundays at 1PM ET) should be on your must list. The show will feature stories written by listenersโ€“kid listenersโ€“and performed by the Story Pirates. Kids get the chance to make up stories, characters, sound effects, and even impromtu commercials from wherever they are listening. Story Pirates Radio will also include creative story-generating games that families can play together while they are in the car enjoying the show like โ€œTalk Like a Character,โ€ โ€œDriving Games,โ€ and โ€œIdea Storms.โ€

Overall, it sounds like some pretty solid listening entertainment for the long hot days on the road, or for chilling out an unwinding in the air conditioning. Iโ€™m in. โ€“Stephanie M
