5 kitchen organization tips for those of us who need to refresh our space

After so much time at home with the kids this past year, let's just say that my kitchen is not its best self right now. (Neither are the parents here, but that's another story!) So I've been gathering tips, tricks, and products for reorganizing my workspace, and I have to say, it's been so helpful. So here are my favorite simple tips for organizing your kitchen. Even if you can find the energy for just one, I think you'll be glad you did. Cool Mom Eats is a reward style affiliate.

5 kitchen organization tips for those of us who spent a lot of time at home this past year: Organize your stackables

1. Organize your stackables

I've always kept my cookie sheets and cutting boards in a messy stack somewhere in my cabinets, but this year I bought a vertical organizer, and wow. Why didn't I do this years ago? No more taking everything out to find the muffin tin. I like this bakeware organizer on Amazon that has a little divot for lids, but there are so many great options. 5 kitchen organization tips for those of us who spent a lot of time at home this past year: Clean out your Tupperware drawer

2. Clean out your Tupperware drawer

If you've watched any of the Home Edit, you know that a good re-org is good for the soul. And while it isn't the sexiest task, a streamlined Tupperware drawer truly makes life easier. Start with culling any lid-less stragglers and then purchasing a new set, with interchangeable lids if possible. And if you're someone who likes to microwave your leftovers right in the container, consider splurging on a glass set like this Snapware solution set. 5 kitchen organization tips for those of us who spent a lot of time at home this past year: Declutter your countertops

3. Declutter your countertops

One easy mistake is keeping too many items on your countertops. So think about what you use the most often and store the rest in a drawer or cabinet. I like keeping my MVP utensils -- big spoons, spatulas, tongs -- in a utensil holder like this one from iDesign at Amazon, while the just-once-in-a-while tools go in a drawer. And hey, if you want to keep those organized, too, The Container Store has some brilliant drawer organizers for that.

4. 5 kitchen organization tips for those of us who spent a lot of time at home this past year: Reconfigure your spices

4. Organize your spices

I used to have my spices gathered together in one shelf that had me picking them all up to find what I was looking for. But I recently got a pull-out organizer like this Lynk spice cabinet organizer from Amazon and now I just pluck the one I want on the first try. I love that it comes in multiple sizes so that you can maximize the space you have. Depending on the shape of your space, I'd also consider a spice rack lazy susan or a spice shelf. 5 kitchen organization tips for those of us who spent a lot of time at home this past year: Reconsider your knife storage

5. Reconsider your knife storage

Not only do knife blocks take up counter space, they are, apparently, very gross. So to avoid the bacteria that grows in the slots, try getting your knives up on the wall with a cool magnetic knife strip. Or stash them in a knife roll and keep them in a drawer, especially the ones you only use occasionally. Top image: Jason Briscoe via Unsplash
