If you’re like me, it’s time to take a walk through the kitchen and refresh a few of our everyday items that are either full of grime and sticky fingerprints, or just flat on their last legs. With kids home all summer, we’re hard on our house, but some simple updates in my kitchen will make a big difference. Even if I’m the only one who notices.
Here are the items we’re restocking and refreshing to keep our kitchens clean and functional this summer.

How old is your toaster? Mine is overflowing with crumbs and covered in a fine mist of second-hand grease. Time for an upgrade to this lovely (and affordable) Toastmaster multi-function toaster for just $30 at Walmart.

Stash your ugly bottles in the cabinet, and set this pretty Olivia Olive Oil Sprayer on your counter instead. If you have an oil sprayer, check to make sure it’s clean and fresh for summer grilling.

If your spatulas and serving spoons have seen better days, invest in a nice new set. We think these wooden spoons from Parachute are stunning.

My broom is a couple years old, and that’s a long time for germs to collect in there. Maybe I could splurge $12 for a fresh broom, right? But here’s the real treat: upgrade your housecleaning routine to include an EyeVac 2-in-1 Air Purifier and Touchless Vacuum. Just sweep your mess up to the slot on the front of the EyeVac, and it vacuums it into a trashcan you can empty later, while also purifying the air with its HEPA filter. EyeVac sent us one to try, and it’s my new favorite thing.

Are your kitchen knives getting dull? It might be time to upgrade your knife sharpener. Sure, it helps chop all those veggies you’ll be grilling this summer, but it’s also safer. Chefs agree: dull knives are more likely to hurt you since you have to use more force and they’re likely to slip. So sharpen those knives, mamas!

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like my bread tends to mold faster when I store it on my counter in the plastic bag it’s sold in. Lately I’ve been using Keeki beeswax-lined bread storage bags, and I’m thrilled with the way it stays fresh longer. And it’s way easier for kids to actually close back up than finding that little metal tie and winding it around the plastic.

Let’s be honest, the water bottle situation is out of hand. My drawer is full of bottles, but most are ages old and probably full of hidden germs. It’s time for everyone to get a fresh water bottle (Owala is my favorite) so they can stay hydrated on the go all summer long.

A clean brush for my kitchen sink isn’t something that’s ever on my mind when I’m shopping for groceries, so I went ahead and put this one on subscribe-and-save at Amazon so I know every 3 months I’m getting a fresh, new brush for my dishes. At just $6, that’s do-able.

Not quite a “refresh,” but the splurge kitchen gadget I’m dying to try this summer is the Ninja Slushi frozen drink maker, or a Ninja Creami ice cream maker. Fresh, frozen treats (maybe even a little healthier than store bought) sound perfect knowing that those long, hot days of summer will be here soon.
