Well, that was fast! It hasn’t been six hours since Melania Trump was photographed wearing a Zara bomber jacket with the questionable message, I Really Don’t Care. Do U? on her way (of all things) to meet migrant children who have been detained and separated from parents in Texas on orders of our government. But already, in an exemplary example of trolling the trolling (retrolling?), Etsy shop Two String Jane has come up with their own shirt in response.
The olive green I Really Do Care. Do U? t-shirt seems like a better message for our times, anyway, regardless of who is wearing it. Maybe Zara can take a note.
Better yet, this is more than an opportunistic counter-meme, considering 100% of the profits from the shirt will be donated to RAICES to support refugee and immigrant services which is a great use for your 29 buck. It’s an organization we’ve recommended ourselves in our own post on how to support families who deserve to be together. They’re good people doing important work.
Should you be interested, you can also buy a I Really Do Care. Do U? satin bomber jacket from Two String Jane. Although as surely you know, you really don’t need a bomber jacket in Texas — or in Washington DC — on June 21.
[thanks for the tip, Kim G!]

Umm? So, you didn’t check to see what the original designer had to say about the meaning of the design? It was designed to go against inequality. As in, I don’t care about the color of your skin or where you come from. And apparently, the FLOTUS felt the same. But way to go always twisting everything back to something negative disguised as positive social action for profit. Especially, when you could have seen it for what it was without immediate judgement. And then realize her message could have been flipped in favor. I’m an Independent that supports the children BTW. I think they could use any and all actual help they can get. Doesn’t matter who it is. So, I’m guessing 100% of the sales will be going directly to help the kids be reunited with their families? I also think your statement needs to be changed. Because this isn’t for parents of all kinds. It leaves anyone who is Independent or to the right of them completely out.
Right. Well. Any message on on any piece of clothing means what it says. The one she wore said “I don’t care.” It didn’t mean “I don’t care about color,” or it would have said that. And the “original designer” is actually the designer label R13, from whom the jacket was originally stolen. https://www.thecut.com/2018/06/melanias-zara-jacket-r13-ripoff.html They make clothing with far more provocative progressive statements.
And yes, 100% of the sales do go directly to help kids be reunited with their families, as we stated. One of the ways to reunite families is to provide legal care and bond support which is what RAICES does. You should check them out, they’re doing good work.
I’m don’t believe that people who are independent or right-leaning as a whole don’t identify with the statement “I care.” That would make me really sad. It sounds like you do. Even if this shirt isn’t for you.
Peace.
It would be helpful if @FLOTUS would clarify what she meant, even in a tweet, as her spokesperson stated there was no intended message and her husband said it reflected her feelings about fake news.
