My kids are fruit-eating machines, which is great except for when we get the urge to make a smoothie and have only a sad spotted banana left on the counter. Short of planting my own orchard, I’m happy to have discovered the new all-natural Chiquita Smoothies which are in fact all-natural–Something you rarely expect in the frozen foods section these days.

Chiquita Smoothies use all fruit and fruit juices with no added sugars or artificial anything. And because they’re made without dairy or gluten, my food-allergic child is thrilled to be able to enjoy the same frozen strawberry-banana or peach-mango treat as the rest of us.

If you have the time and inclination to tinker, Chiquita has put together some delicious-sounding recipes on the website that might make you feel less guilty about not using the fresh stuff. Although admittedly, the first recipe I’ll try is the Banana Colada. Which includes two shots of rum.  –Christina

The new Chiquita Smoothies in Mixed Berry, Strawberry Banana, Peach Mango and Banana Colada (minus the rum) are available in major supermarkets in the midwest, southeast and some western states. Please buy a lot of them so that they can expand distribution to New England! (Warning, turn down the volume before you click.)
