After falling in love with Canadian mom Kate Inglis’ writing at her personal blog Sweet Salty, it was no surprise to me that she’d write a book. But what I didn’t expect was that it would be the fantastically scrumptious morsel of kid fiction, The Dread Crew: Pirates of the Backwoods, now finally available in the USA.
[see the giveaway after the jump!]
The story begins with the pirates of the Dread Crew lost in the
Maritime woods, with self-proclaimed pirate tracker, Eric Stewart, hot
on their tail. We then follow his wonderful adventures, all of which are
illustrated with spectacular near real-life imagery by artist Sydney
Smith.
This book is far from your average chapter book fare.
There’s nothing remotely offensive or inappropriate, but let’s just say
these pirates aren’t the cleanest, prettiest, or well-mannered of blokes
and lasses out there. But then, that’s what makes them awfully
interesting characters.
It’s a story full of intrigue that will
challenge both boys and girls (mine included!) and even grown-ups like
us, to think, imagine, and believe. You know, like all of your favorite,
really amazing, can’t-put-them-down, books do. -Kristen

Congratulations to Amy H, lucky winner of a copy of The Dread Crew!
this book looks so cool!
How exciting! I love previewing kids’ lit before passing it on to one or both of my nephews, both of whom are voracious readers. Thanks for the recommendation.
