To me the holidays is nothing without our annual viewing of Rudolph. Herbie! The Abominable Snowman! The Isle of Misfit Toys who aren’t quite misfits! It’s all pure magic. So who’s with me in jumping for joy that this year, A four-DVD series of some of the best animated Christmas classics are are bundled together and out on Blu-ray.
The Original Christmas Classics features four of the greatest animated classics — or at least three of the greatest. I’m not as big a fan of 1992’s Frosty Returns, but I sure do love the original Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, and of course, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Now
serious AV fanatics may complain about the transfer to Blu-ray (and do, on Amazon), and
yes, Rudolph is a little more purple than brown. But for the rest of us,
eh. It’s just nice to watch the movies all without commercials on TV. Besides, the sound is fantastic. You’ll have Silver and Gold stuck in your head for a week, and not in a bad way.
While there are no extra features which I generally like, you do get a bonus 7-song CD with Christmas classics you know and love. (Really, I never tire of Burl Ives.)
It’s such a super gift for the next generation of Herbie fans, or even
for a sibling with whom you have fond memories of watching the originals
on TV. You know, back when the animation seemed really futuristic. –Liz
Find The Original Christmas Classics on Blu-ray from our affiliate Amazon, where 15% of the people viewing that page buy Lord of the Rings instead. Huh. Go figure.
It’s ‘HERMIE’ (or ‘Hermey’), NOT Herbie….the would-be aspiring dentist.
