Umi sneakersIf I can give you a tip in the sneaker trend department, it’s that laces are going away. Not in favor of Velcro, but in favor of nothing at all. I’m seeing lots of plain, unlaced eyelets, all preppy boat-shoe style. So cool.

If you’re a Converse fan, you’ll like the new All Star Simple Slip
sneakers in seven swell colors. You’ll get all of the on-and-off
easiness with none of the struggle. They start in toddler size 2, so
even your pre-walker can look snazzy this spring.

For bigger kids, I happen to adore what long-time fave Umi shoes is now doing with their new canvas no-lace sneakers
called Riff (above). Starting at a EU size 24, or an 8 US, there are
five wild patterns to choose from. I’m not as crazy about the polka
dots, which look a little like clown shoes to me–although my kids would
love them–but the two styles of argyle plaid are simply awesome. They
sent a pair for me to check out and I was happy to discover some hidden
elastic that holds the tongue to the upper. It helps grip the foot like
classic slip-on sneakers do (think Keds), while keeping the look
effortless.

Maybe one day we’ll even get to wear them. I’m talking to you, snowbank. –Liz
