I was so sad to find out that one of my favorite poets, the bestselling and Pulitzer prize winning Mary Oliver, passed away earlier today. Her poetry collections were some of my all-time favorites: Wild Geese helped me slow down and appreciate the natural world; Dog Songs made me want to go back in time and hug the neck of every dog who’s been my faithful pet; and Why I Wake Early inspired me to rise before dawn to watch the sunrise (okay, technically I’m still working on that one).
But most of all, Mary’s poems just made me want to live a more full, attentive life.
So to celebrate her life and work, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Mary Oliver quotes rendered into amazing art prints that you can glance at and enjoy even when you don’t have time to stop and read a whole collection. Although watch out, these might inspire you to find the nearest cozy chair and do just that.

I think this Mary Oliver precious life print at Violet and Alfie would make a marvelous graduation gift for a kid who’s about to leave the nest. Or for anyone who needs a reminder to stop scrolling and go outside once in a while.
I find this Mary Oliver unimaginable print from Type by Alice so brightly hopeful. Consider this for someone in your life who might need a little boost (hint: even if that person is you).
Mary Oliver’s instructions for life couldn’t be simpler — or more beautifully designed than in this instructions for life print from Redbud Design Co. that I’m currently coveting for my son’s nursery.
