I have wanted to talk to Joy Cho, the founder and creative director of Oh Joy! for oh…about forever. When I think of creativity, style, and design, she’s one of the people who pops into mind first — and with a half-million Instagram followers and 13 million (!!) @OhJoy Pinterest fans, maybe you feel the same.

So it was a joy (sorry, had to do it) to speak to her this week on the Spawned Parenting Podcast about inspiring creativity in kids, even when, like me, you can’t even sign a card straight let alone whip up a masterful craft project. She has so many helpful and encouraging ideas, including ways ways to rethink the benefits of creativity, and how to encourage kids when they’re feeling like they’ve failed at something.

I was especially happy that Joy was willing to speak honestly about work-life balance (i.e. the big myth) as a very busy entrepreneurial mom of two, and the things she’s had to give up to focus on the things that matter most to her.  In other words, no one has it all or does it all. No matter how together they look on social media.

Take a listen right now.

While you’re listening, be sure to subscribe to the Spawned Parenting Podcast on Apple Podcasts or your favorite app, so you never miss an episode. And while you’re there, spread a little love and leave us a 5-star review if you enjoy our show. We’d be so grateful!

Our Cool Picks of the Week

Minna Sparkling Tea is Joy Cho's pick to cut back on coffee with no added sugar

Joy – To cut back on coffee, she recommends Minna Sparkling Tea. Flavors range from no caffeine to just about as much as a half-cup of coffee, and they’re all made with organic ingredients, with no sugars or added sweeteners.

You get so much wear out of the DVF shirt dresses! Belt over leggings, wear as a dress alone, or layer like a duster

Liz – DVF Shirtdresses are the best investment! It can double as a dress, a tunic over leggings, and a mid-length duster when you wear it open as a layering piece, plus they last forever and never really go out of style. While the new patterns like the one above are always expensive (these are designer clothes!), you can find great end-of-season deals throughout the year — this stylish leopard print is now $100 off.
