As someone who basically lives in jean shorts once the weather gets warm enough, Iโve purchased a lot of pairs from many different places over the years. But when Lisa introduced me to these jean shorts at Target a couple of years ago, Iโve never worn anything else. Theyโre the perfect cut and length, with just the right amount of stretch, which is why I own a bunch of pairs in various washes.

Iโm talking specifically about the Universal Thread Womenโs High-Rise Midi Jean Shorts that are currently $17.99 at Target. I still have a couple of pairs from the last two years, though I will be honest, like most of the things I get at Target, youโre only going to get a couple of seasons (maybe) out of them, which is why I restocked when I saw them.
I personally love them in the medium wash (with the cut off, distressed leg), but I also got them in off-white as well, to wear on dressier occasions (yes, I wear jean shorts on dressy occasions). Theyโre also available in black with a cuff, and a fun flower pattern that I might actually pick up too.
If youโre iffy on high-rise, these are not super high, and they are the perfect level of stretch, so youโre going to feel nicely packed in (if thatโs something you appreciate), while still being able to move and breathe. And the 4โณ inseam feels short but not up your butt. (Nothing wrong with up-your-butt shorts, by the way, but not my personal favorite).
A word of advice: These sell out pretty quickly, so stock up on them now, even if it feels like summer is far away. Youโll be so glad you did!
Iโm 5โฒ 11โณ, 175-ish lbs, and typically wear a 10-12, Large. I have these in size 10 and they fit perfectly. If you like them a little bigger, size-up, but these are meant to be a bit form-fitting.
